
Herbert Wayne Woodyard, 84, of Cedarville, WV; passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026 at Camden Clark Medical Center, in Parkersburg, WV surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 25, 1941, at his family home in Shock, WV; son of the late Park and Garnet Woodyard. Herbert lived a life defined by faith, hard work, service, and devotion to those he loved.
Herbert later made his home in Cedarville, West Virginia, where he shared a loving life of 54 years of marriage with his beloved wife, JoAnn (Griffith)Woodyard. Together they built a family including 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren with one great grandchild to be born this fall. They remained the center of his world throughout his life.
Preceding Wayne in death is an infant daughter, Kathy Annette Woodyard, and parents Mavis Garnet (Wilson) and Park Cline Woodyard. He is survived by his sister Helen Woodyard of Anmoore, WV; daughters, Katrina Jo Woodyard (Tim) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Rebecca Lynn Pyles (Daniel) of Glenville, WV; five cherished grandchildren who were his “Pride and Joy”, Mikala Dobbins of Burnsville, WV; Lindsey Sherman (Gabriel) & Baby Sherman arriving fall of 2026 of Red Boiling Springs, TN; Caleb Pyles of Cedarville, WV; Raechel Bosley of Westminster, MD; and Raianna Pyles of Glenville, WV. He also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, church family, and community members whose lives were touched by his kindness and generosity.
After graduating Herbert attended meat cutting school in Ohio where he graduated and worked. When coming back to WV he worked at Cedar Creek State Park for over 41 years a job he truly loved. His dedication, strong work ethic, and friendly spirit made him a respected colleague and friend to many. He was also a faithful member of the Glenville Church of Christ for more than 48 years, where he served the Lord and supported his church family with unwavering commitment.
Herbert was deeply involved in his community and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was active in the Gilmer County CEO’s Club and the Gilmer County Senior Center. He enjoyed supporting numerous charitable causes and fundraisers, including those benefiting the Cancer Society and many others. His service to his community reflected his generous heart and desire to help others.
In his free time, Herbert enjoyed walking the hills of West Virginia, digging ramps in the spring, helping with local 4-H activities, collecting hats, knives, and arrowheads, and spending precious time with his family. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, Herbert made everyone feel welcome and valued.
Those who knew Herbert will remember his warm smile, strong faith, willingness to serve, and the love he had for his family, friends, church, and community. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and service will continue to live on through all who were blessed to know him.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV 26351 at 11:00 AM; Saturday, June 27, 2026 with Pastor Charles Brady officiating. Burial will follow in the Griffith Family Cemetery near Cedarville. Friends will be received from 4:00 – 7:00 PM; Friday evening at the mortuary in Glenville.
