High Speed Chase ends in West Fork Barricade and Arrest

Final Chapter of Nelson Chase, surrounded at residence by multiple officers on West Fork Road

A high speed chase on Tuesday September 30th, 2025 ended in the felony arrest of 39 year old Shannon Nelson of Chloe, WV.

In a criminal complaint filed by Deputy H.M. Stephens, she stated that on September 30th, 2025 at approximately 3:30 p.m. she was driving east on Route 33/119. At the Millstone Bar an older model dark green pickup truck rounded the corner, spinning its tires, swerving, and creating smoke. Deputy Stephens turned around and activated the emergency lights and siren and pursued the suspect vehicle, which had increased speed and passed multiple vehicles on a double yellow line.

The Deputy pursued the vehicle from the Millstone Bar to the Clay County line on Route 16, during which pursuit, the driver passed 4 vehicles in a row on a double yellow and multiple others. Despite reaching speeds of over 95 mph Deputy Stephens was unable to catch up to the vehicle. Smoke from the vehicle had been visible from the initial start of the pursuit until Stinson Road at which time Deputy Stephens returned to base to file a criminal complaint.

After discontinuing the pursuit, other officers made contact with individuals who identified the driver of the vehicle as Shannon Nelson. The vehicle was located at his registered
residence of 1374 West Fork Road, with the engine still hot, emitting odor, and the driver’s door ajar where it was believed that Mr. Nelson barricaded himself inside. After about an hour, Sheriff Knight along with WV State Police and DNR apprehended him when he surrendered and came out of the house.

These crimes occurred within the geographical boundaries of Calhoun County, WV.

Nelson was arrested and arraigned having been charged with “Fleeing from A law enforcement officer in vehicle showing a reckless indifference to safety of others”. Magistrate Richard Postalwait released the defendant on a $6,000 surety bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 7th, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. before Magistrate Richard Postalwait.
