Jackson L. Simmons Obituary

Jackson L. Simmons, 76, of Palestine, West Virginia, was called home by his Lord and Savior on April 5, 2026.

Born on the 4th of July in 1949, Jack was a firecracker to life, always full of good stories and kind gestures.

Jack was a hardworking man who began his career at the Viscose, where he worked for 6½ years, and later retired after 30 years from the West Virginia Department of Highways as an equipment operator. In addition to his work, he was a dedicated farmer who enjoyed working with Farmall tractors and antique equipment. He grew corn for meal and cane for molasses, taking great pride in the fruits of his labor.

He was a 1967 graduate of Wirt County High School, a member of Two Runs Baptist Church, and a faithful attendant of his church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sue Simmons; his daughters, Beverly Cheuvrount and Regina Simmons; his grandchildren, Remington Cheuvrount and Jackie Cheuvrount; his siblings, Frank Simmons, Paul Simmons, and Barbara Sims; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by both his parents, Harlen “Jack” Simmons and Sally “Virginia” Simmons, a brother, Jim Simmons, and son-in-law Daniel “Chevy” Cheuvront.

Visitation will be held 5pm–8pm on April 8th,2026 at Matheny Whited Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m on April 9th, 2026 at Matheny Whited Funeral Home, with Pastor Jason Stutler officiating. 

Interment will follow at Two Runs Cemetery in Palestine, West Virginia.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Matheny Whited Funeral Home.
