On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at approximately 5:52 p.m., Cpl. Jeffrey Hunt was contacted by Calhoun County 911 and advised that they had received multiple calls regarding a motorcycle that had crashed and had been abandoned at the intersection of WV Route 16, South Calhoun Highway , Red Roof Lane, the entrance to the Upper West Fork Park.
Upon Huntās arrival he observed a blue in color Harley Davison motorcyce bearing WV registration G5P224 in the East roadway ditch line facing north. After further investigation it was revealed that the vehicle had been traveling North on South Calhoun Highway, striking a deer and then sliding down the roadway into the ditch.
The motorcycle was photographed and the surround area, with photos filed with the complaint. A check through the WVSP Communications revealed that the motorcycle was registered to James or Amanda King and the registration was expired. A search of a backpack yielded a WV operators with the name of James Lee King.
Cpl Hunt located James Lee King on Friday, August 12, 2022 at approximately 4:18 p.m. at 1359 Hunt Road. After being advised of his rights Cpl. Hunt obtained a body Bodyworn recorded statement. In this recorded statement James Lee King admitted that he had operated the Harley Davison Motorcycle on Tuesday August 9, 2022 and that he did not have insurance on the motorcycle. He advised the officer that he was unaware that he was required to report the vehicle crash or could not leave the scene. He also advised that he was unaware that his WV operators was suspended or that the motorcycle registration was expired.
Mr. King later failed to appear for his hearing and a capias was issued.
King was booked into the WV Central Regional Jail on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023 at 6:20 p.m. where he is being held on a $2,000 bond in Calhoun on the Misdemeanor charges below. He is also being held for Clay County on a $2,000 Bond:
