Janice Kidder Lockhart, of Palestine, West Virginia, passed away on April 12, 2026, at WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center at the age of 93.
She was born on February 5, 1933, in Elizabeth, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Alva and Beulah (Smith) Kidder.
Janice was a 1952 graduate of Wirt County High School. She married the love of her life, Harold Lockhart, in 1952, and together they shared 59 years of marriage until his passing in 2012. She devoted her life to her family as a homemaker, creating a loving and caring home.
She was a member of Elizabeth United Methodist Church. Janice enjoyed listening to old southern gospel music and watching westerns, simple pleasures that brought her comfort and happiness throughout her life.
She is survived by her children, Steve (Jaunita) Lockhart, Debra (Lewis) Ruble, Michael (Susan) Lockhart, and Bob Lockhart; her siblings, Peggy (Jack) Snider, Karen (Larry) Scott, and Gerald (Renate) Kidder; her grandchildren, Amy Lockney, Brad (Erika) Lockhart, Jason Lockhart, Crystal (Tim) Myers, Amber Jones, and Erica Hite; her great-grandchildren, Bristol Hite, Chloe Hite, Jessa Lockhart, Lilly Lockhart, Gerad Lockhart, Parker Myers, Peyton Jones, Kaylee Jones, Kaitlyn Evans, and Zachary Lockney; and her great-great-grandchildren, Harley, Fynleigh, Aubreigh, Abagail, and Amarie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lockhart; her sister, Doris Watkins; her infant daughter, Patricia Jean; and her daughter-in-law, Darleen Lockhart.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Matheny Whited Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Jim Bruce officiating. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Palestine, West Virginia.
