Following an arrest in Marion County on November 4th, 2022 Jeremiah D. Scritchfield was arrested on a prior unserved warrant on a charge in Calhoun from 2018.
On March 8, 2018 Cpl. C.A. Blevins responded to a complaint made by Chelsey Sampson. Upon arriving at her residence she advised Cpl. Blevins that her boyfriend, Jeremiah D. Scritchfield had taken their vehicle out the evening prior (3/7/2018) to drive her father home. When he later returned he was smelling of alcohol. She advised him not to go out again, but he left again in the vehicle. Ms. Sampson received a call at 6:45 a.m. on March 8th, 2018 from Jeremiah D. Scritchfield stating he had wrecked the vehicle earlier that night. She then went to the scene of the accident on Pine Creek Road where she discovered the vehicle had been pulled out by a tractor. It was then driven to 375 Rock Road. The vehicle which was a 2006 Toyota Rav 4, had extensive front end damage as well as damage to the passenger and drivers side and roof. Cpl. Blevins photographed the vehicle, now Parked in the driveway.
Cpl. Blevins asked where Scritchfield was to which Ms. Sampson stated that he was in the house, and she would ask him to come out, which he did. A statement was obtained from Scritchfield to which he informed Cpl. Blevins that he did drive the vehicle from their residence on 3/8/2018 to take Chelsey’s dad home. He stated they stopped at the VFW and drank some beer. He advised later in the evening, after dropping Chelsey’s father at his residence, he lost control of the vehicle and traveled over a hill and into a creek on Pine Creek Road, Calhoun County. He told the officer that he had slept at a friend’s home on Pine Creek Road after the accident and got the vehicle pulled out in the morning from the landowner. He stated that he knew he should not have been driving due to the fact that he had been drinking and that his drivers license was revoked for DUI.
Cpl. Blevins obtained an arrest history for Mr. Scritchfield that revealed he did have a previous driving while revoked for DUI out of Ritchie County, WV with a conviction of 10/20/2015.
Officer Blevins also traveled to the scene of the accident on Pine Creek Road, approximately 4 miles from the North Side road intersection. He observed tire marks traveling off the road way, over the hill and into the creek area. He observed pieces of plastic in the grass consistent with pieces from Ms. Sampson’s Vehicle.
Jeremiah Scritchfield was arrested and placed in the WV Central Regional Jail. He has since been released on bond in the amount of $15,024.00.
