Joan Marie Schumacher (Hurford), 93, formerly of Grantsville, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2026.
Born in the Township of Neptune, New Jersey, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank John Schumacher, in 2019; her parents, David Arthur Hurford and Ethel Hurford (Marshall); her brother, David Hurford; and her sister, Shirley Anne Hurford.
Joan devoted her career to serving others as a nurse, a profession she truly enjoyed. Together with Frank, they spent many cherished years working on their Christmas tree farm in Grantsville, West Virginia. They built not only a farm together but a place where family gathered and memories were made. She found happiness in watching the trees they nurtured grow year after year, knowing they would become part of other family’s holiday traditions.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Shirley Short (Schumacher) and her husband, Terry Short; her son, Scott Schumacher and his wife, Christina Schumacher (Walker); her grandchildren, Jennifer Cottrill (Boggs) and her husband, Joseph Cottrill, Stephanie Marshall (Boggs) and her husband, Dylan Marshall; and Nikki Schumacher; and her great-grandchildren, Caleb Cottrill and Lindsey Cottrill. To those who loved her, Joan was more than a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, nurse, or friend.
