Minnie Hamilton Health System (MHHS) and Roane County Emergency Squad (RCES) explore Collaborative Efforts for Enhanced Emergency Medical Services/ 911 Services in Calhoun County.
In response to ongoing discussions between MHHS and RCES, efforts are underway to enhance emergency medical services (EMS) coverage for our community. As we navigate the challenges presented by the federal PEAKS Act not being passed, which would allow for cost-based reimbursement for critical access hospitals, we recognize the urgency to uphold high-quality coverage while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
Although the PEAKS Act has not passed at the federal level and appears to be stalled, our commitment to providing exemplary EMS services remains unwavering. The collaborative approach under review aims to ensure that our community’s emergency services are not only maintained but actually increased in coverage. Importantly, all levy dollars will continue to be allocated solely for Calhoun County services.
By joining forces with our regional partners, we are focused on delivering the highest quality of care to our residents. While no agreements have been finalized, preliminary discussions indicate that RCES would hire additional personnel to serve Calhoun County, with a 24- hour crew stationed at Arnoldsburg. Simultaneously, MHHS will maintain a 24-hour transport crew, complemented by additional daytime transport coverage. This partnership will enable both organizations to effectively respond to 911 emergencies and enhance service availability.
We understand that our community may have questions regarding this collaborative effort.
We encourage anyone with inquiries to reach out directly to me at stephen.whited@mhhs.healthcare or 304-354-9735.
More updates will follow as discussions progress.
