Odetta Valjean “Jean” Wilson Obituary

Odetta Valjean “Jean” Wilson, 85, of Sissonville, WV, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard Dale Wilson, parents Eva Mae and Estil Edward Legg, brothers Robert and Orville “Pete” Legg.

Jean had a love for bluegrass music, whether it be listening to old favorites on the back porch with Richard or attending bluegrass festivals each summer. She loved gardening and canning in the summer and won several awards for items that she canned.

You could always expect to be fed when you walked in her house. Jean was known for her wonderful home-cooked meals and would never let you leave without sending some of it with you, followed by a “watch for deer” as you left.

Jean was also a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and enjoyed being a member of the choir. She helped with countless community Thanksgiving dinners and was known for her “famous” dressing.

Jean will be deeply missed by her children, Susan Weekley (Tracy) and Richard D. Wilson Jr. (Pam); grandchildren Morgan (Ryan), Joey (Nicole), Justin (Kathleen), Ashlee, Megan (Scott), Kaitlyn (Matthew), Ally (Michael); great-grandchildren, Jozey, Mason, Gabe, Penelope, Audrey, Levi, Kinsley, Sadie, Harrison, Ethan, Huck, Harper, Archer, Emmy, Caroline, and Tate. Jean was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved her family and friends dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, at Long and Fisher Funeral Home, with visitation starting at noon. Burial will immediately follow at Floral Hills Garden of Memories.
