Powder Puff Football Game is not as Soft as it Sounds

By Whitney Butler

Update on Whitley: She has to get an MRI at Roane General then they will set her up with a orthopedic surgeon to schedule surgery. She’s in more pain and a lot more swelling today and she can’t straighten her leg. Please pray for her.

Calhoun ladies took to the field Saturday evening to raise funds for the Calhoun Youth Football and Calhoun Cheer. But for a low/non contact sport, the ladies were serious about their efforts. The group didn’t make it through the first quarter without injury. Whitley Cottrell tore two ligaments in her knee and is facing possible surgery. At the end of the 1st quarter ”The She-Unit” trailed the ”Hot Foxes” 8-0.

At the start of the 2nd Quarter, #22 Deb McClain picked off the Hot Foxes and ran it back for a She-Unit touchdown, but fell short on the extra point. The pace began to slow in the 2nd Quarter but the tempers began to heat up toward the officials. The first half score was 16-10 in favor of the Hot Foxes.

3rd Quarter started with the ball in She-Unit’s hand only to be me with Hot Foxes force and the ”Mooch”, Savannah Church, who shut them down with a 3 and out.

Brandi ”Bird” Richards returned the favor by stopping the Hot Foxes in the backfield on a 3rd and 1, forces the Hot Foxes to punt it away. The Foxes ended the quarter with a strong run by the “Mooch” but stopped around the 40 yard line and a first down. Score was still 16-12.

In the 4th quarter it was a back and forth effort between the teams, both battling for the win. But ultimately the Hot Foxes held on to it for the title.
