The Calhoun County Commission gathered with area residents to celebrate the signing of a proclamation declaring September 2025 as Recovery Month for Calhoun. During the month of September, citizens are encouraged to decorate their homes and businesses showing solidarity in supporting the recovery community who have or are struggling with substance abuse.
Town Council woman Jessica Metz spoke to the crowd about her own recovery as well as her Mother’s, dedicating her own recovery to the positive impact her Mother had on the community through encouragement and helping where she could. Jess expressed the importance of a supportive community for the success of those in recovery and especially her faith, citing John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me,” giving God the glory for her ability to stay focused on recovery.
Also speaking was Sarah Ritchie who stated that her recovery may have looked much different if she had had the support in Calhoun at the time that she needed It. She however found help when moving to the State of Pennsylvania through their established recovery center, for which she now works for helping others in recovery. She was excited to the support now in her home county for other in the struggle.
The Proclamation was signed by all three Commissioners Attending, Craig Arthur, Jacob McCumbers and Eric Lupardus. A September event will be held at the 1982 Foundation with Aaron Spaur leading the way in celebration of his own recovery.
