Ridgeview News Received Update from Virginia State Police on Check Fraud Case

The following email was received a few days ago by Ridgeview News regarding the check fraud crime committed against the Town of Grantsville in December 2025. We are extremely grateful for the Virginia State Police and the West Virginia State Police working to solve this crime against our community. We are praying for the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible. Any crime creates doubt, fear and a sense of insecurity or vulnerability in a community. It’s a privilege to be provided an update on the steps the investigating officers are taking to solve this case.

Ms. Johnson:

The Virginia State Police was requested to assist with the below-referenced investigation by West Virginia State Police Sergeant Kevin Williams.

At this time, a Special Agent is assisting with obtaining documents and video surveillance from Bank of America, where the check was cashed in the Richmond metropolitan area. We are currently in the process of securing these materials through legal process (subpoena).

Other than that, we have no additional updates to provide at this time.

Thank you,

First Sergeant Steven P . Sclafani
