Roane County 4-H Celebrates Achievement at Annual Banquet

The annual 4-H Achievement Banquet was held Sunday, November 9, 2025 to honor 4-H members and leaders for outstanding work and service to 4-H during the past year. Anna Hays served as the emcee for the event.

Recognition was given to outstanding 4-H club secretaries, treasurers, and reporters.  This year the outstanding 4-H club secretary was Ben Wolfe of the Reedy Lucky 4-H Club.  Adelaide Taylor of the Prime Cuts 4-H Club received second place for her club secretary record book, while third place was awarded to Jonah Rector of the Walton 4-H Club.

The 2025 outstanding 4-H club treasurer was Paidyn Matheney of the Prime Cuts 4-H Club. Hailey Apjok of the Reedy Lucky 4-H Club received second place recognition for her clubs’treasurer report, while third place was awarded to Brystol Ray of the Walton 4-H Club. ​

The award for outstanding 4-H club reporter book was awarded to Natalie Miller of the Prime Cuts 4-H Club.  

All community club officers received an officer pin for their year of service. ​​

4-H Leadership Length of Service pins and certificates were awarded to the following volunteer leaders for their service to the 4-H program.  Receiving their five-year service pin were Jon Miller, Heather Webb, Ashley Simon, Aaron Simon, and Kim Ashley. Amanda Hively and Amanda Mitchell received a ten-year gold clover pin.  Jason Nichols received his fifteen-year pearl clover service pin. Jim Dever was recognized for his forty-year diamond clover service pin.  Aaron and Ashley Simon were also recognized as the outstanding 4-H volunteers for 2025. 

The Friend of 4-H was awarded to Roane County Schools for their commitment to the Roane County 4-H program in allowing the program to use facilities and buses and their continued maintenance of the Roane County 4-H & FFA youth livestock show and sale facility. 

Citizenship Award recipients were Adelaide Taylor, Eli Hays and Josie Cox.  These 4-H’ers were recognized as youth who model the goals of 4-H development in their communities and schools.  They each received a 4-H Citizenship pin.

A 4-H Achievement pin was awarded to Dakota Dever for achieving the goals of service and leadership through his active involvement in the 4-H program over a number of years.

Junior Leadership pins were awarded to Garrett Brabham, Morgan Spencer, Josie Cox, Kendall Shafer and Lexi Mitchell for their participation in club activities and meetings, and for the support and guidance they have provided to their fellow club members, leaders and younger 4-H’ers. In recognition of extraordinary character and qualities of leadership, Dakota Dever won the “I Dare You” Award for the Roane County Junior Leaders club. 

The 4-H Leadership Award was presented to Josie Cox and Hailey Apjok for their active role in 4-H for several years.  These older youths stand out as especially motivated and responsible for4-H members who have provided leadership and service during 4-H camp and other county events.  

4-H members who took part in the State 4-H Poster Contest were recognized with certificates, cash premiums, and ribbons.  Poster winners in the 4-H categories included Sadie Apjok, Kane Nichols, Hattie Perkins, Braydon Saunders, Brody Saunders, Cora Raines, Michael Ward, Brantley Shears, Paidyn Metheney, Berkley Saunders, Ella Wilson, Hailey Apjok, Addison Wilson, Aftyn Wilson, Garrett Brabham, Wyatt Brabham, and Lila Miller. 

Garrett Brabham, Wyatt Brabham, Gwen Berkhouse, Macy Brohard, Makenna Brohard, Emma Mace, Natalie Miller, Braydon Saunders, Brody Saunders, Wade Shafer, Jayme Slater, Benjamen Wolfe, Addison Wilson, Aftyn Wilson, and Ella Wilson were recognized for exhibiting photos at this year’s State Fair of West Virginia with cash premiums.

4-H members who took part in the State 4-H Writing Exhibition were recognized with certificates, cash premiums, and ribbons as well.  Those individuals were Natalie Miller, Emma Ashley, and Wade Shafer.

The 4-H Public Speaking pin was awarded to Liberty Davis, Claire Greene, Berkley Saunders, and Trevor Webster for placing first in the public speaking competitions for their age groups during the 2025 Roane County 4-H Round Up. If they submitted virtual entries to the state, they also received a cash premium from the state program. 

Roane County 4-H’ers who competed in visual presentation, digital presentation, and public speaking competitions at State 4-H Days were recognized.  They included Colt Jett, Paidyn Matheney, Brookyln Miller, Naomi Raines, Madison Springston, Luke Thurman, Kensi Apjok, Sadie Apjok, Cora Raines, Amelia Reip, Braydon Saunders, Wade Shafer, and Hailey Apjok.   

Tyson Watson, Morgan Spencer, Dakota Dever, and Nathanael Webb were recognized as new West Virginia 4-H All Star after being inducted into the organization during the past year. Jim Dever was recognized as our Roane County Outstanding 4-H All Star.  All were nominated and selected based on their outstanding service record at the club, county, and state level. 

Roane County 4-H members who received honors for their livestock exhibits and showmanship skills during the 2025 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Sale were recognized.

The Roane County 4-H Project of Excellence was awarded to Hailey Apjok of the Reedy Lucky 4-H Club. This award is given to a member who has participated in County Roundup during their multi-year project and received the highest average scores in the project and roundup presentations over those three years. Hailey completed her animal science project in market lamb. 

Cloverbuds are children in grades kindergarten through second grade. This year we had thirty-seven Cloverbuds.
