In a complaint filed in the Magistrate Court of Calhoun County by Trooper J.A. Elkins, the Trooper stated that on July 16th, 2026 at approximately 10:41 p.m. he was notified of a domestic situation located at 14041 S. Calhoun Highway, Arnoldsburg, WV. Trooper Elkins was contacted the victim, who stated that her boyfriend, Christopher S. Smith had struck her and strangled her following a verbal altercation that morning.
The victim stated that the verbal altercation occurred when she had returned home and the accused had invited his daughter and her boyfriend to stay at the house, against the victim’s wishes. The victim stated that the accused struck her in the head with a pillow which accelerated the argument further to which he repeatedly choked her and drug her around the house by her hair and threw her into the bathroom vanity and bathtub while punching her in the face several times.
The victim stated that she then took a nap and then proceeded to go to work as normal before reporting the battery that evening. The victim had corroborating injuries in the form of both eyelids bruised as well a laceration on her left eyelid, severe irritation to her right ear and marks around her neck which are consistent with the strangulation claims.
The undersigned trooper received a written statement from the victim and Trooper H.D. Hickman took a verbal statement via bodyworn camera. The undersigned trooper also documented said injuries.
Christopher S. Smith was charged with Domestic Battery §61-2-28 (a), Domestic Assault §61-2-28 (b) and Strangulation §61-2-9d (b).
The accused was located at the residence and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to Clay WVSP Detachment for processing then to Central Regional Jail in lieu of arraignment. Following arraignment his bond was set at $100,000.00.
