The 1982 Foundation is Setting Sail for Adventure!

The pool is taking shape, the sails on the Recovery Porch are ready for the wind to blow them into some new and exciting adventures and The 1982 Foundation property is turning into what many said wouldn’t happen, a busy community center with the potential to put Calhoun on the map as a great vacation spot.

Bill and JoAnn Stevens who have spent decades loving and supporting their community have adopted the porch area and spend evenings surveying the progress around their home and caring for the plants on the Foundation porch

Bill said that they awoke Tuesday morning to the sounds of progress on the field with construction equipment firing up to pour concrete into the pool area. It didn’t take long for the pool to begin taking shape and the excitement of those watching increasing with each added material.

They’re in deep now! The deep end of the pool was formed Tuesday and the zero entry end is evident. Much like the collective efforts of the Foundation and Friends the pool goes from a shallow hope to a big dream spanning across the Wayne Underwood field. The pool house waits for the first giggles and towel snaps of excited youth who will really bring this facility to life.

The bus garage that was once not more than an eyesore at the end of the field now has the most beautiful deck over looking the little Kanawha River and will one day be the spot where survivors will gather to share the good news of their recovery from alcohol and substance abuse. They may just be words, but for anyone who has seen someone struggle to stay out of the circles of past mistakes, an opportunity for them to gather with friends on a new path makes the heart sing!
