Underwood Arrested for Domestic Battery

Senior Trooper J.D. Richards filed a complaint in the Magistrate Court of Calhoun on February 8th, 2026 stating that on Friday, February 7th, 2026, at approximately 8:15 p.m. he was notified by Calhoun County Dispatch that they had received a 911-Hang-up from the address of 1460 Hunt Road, Chloe, Calhoun County, WV 25235.

At 8:30 p.m. Trooper Richards and made contact with the victim outside of the residence who advised him that the male that was inside of the residence had hit her.

Trooper Richards observed the victim’s face and noted that she had what looked like, from his experience, to be a fresh knot on the corner of her left eye that was bruising causing her eye to turn purple. The victim advised that she and the male, later to be identified as Johnny Underwood were arguing and he had hit her. The victim also described that she had a knot on the back of her head where Mr. Underwood had also punched her which Trooper Richards confirmed that a knot was present on the back of the victim’s head. The victim also advised that she started shoving and hitting Mr. Underwood back to get him to stop. She further advised that after the battery took place, she had walked to the next adjacent residence, to ask for help.

The neighbors reported that they had tried to calm things down between the victim and Mr. Underwood but when she attempted to enter her residence she discovered that she had been locked out.

Trooper Richards took note of the clothing that the victim was locked out of the house in was a thin jacket, a T-shirt, flip flops with no socks and pajama bottoms. The victim, who was visibly upset and flustered, advised this Trooper that she has “had enough of him beating on her.”

On the same date Trooper Richards spoke with Mr. Underwood who informed him that he did not hit her and he did not know where she got her black eye from, saying that “Maybe she had given herself a black eye,” which the victim adamantly denied stating that Mr. Underwood did that to her.

Johnny Underwood was transported to the WVSP Clay detachment for processing and later taken to the WV Central Regional Jail, having been charged with Domestic Battery. He is currently in the WVCRJ with bond set at $8,000. A pre-trial hearing is set for Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
