Family Friendly Event Honoring West Virginia’s Birthday on June 20
Charleston, WV – The West Virginia Department of Tourism invites residents and visitors to celebrate West Virginia Day on Saturday, June 20, with a free, family-friendly event at the State Capitol Complex in honor of the Mountain State’s 163rd birthday.
The celebration will feature a variety of activities highlighting West Virginia’s history and heritage. Guests can participate in a scavenger hunt in the West Virginia State Museum from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Educational activities will be offered in the Museum Education Room at the Culture Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guided tours of the Capitol will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., departing from the Capitol Rotunda.
The official Semiquincentennial Quilt will be unveiled at noon in the Great Hall of the Culture Center. Created by quilters from across West Virginia, this design commemorates the state’s role in the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
Following the unveiling, attendees can enjoy complimentary refreshments, including West Virginia hot dogs, lemonade, and birthday cake, served in the Culture Center from 12 to 2 p.m. while supplies last.
This event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the State Capitol Parking Garage and at Laidley Field.
