Zwoll Selected as First Chair Percussionist in Marshall University’s Wind Symphony

Zenna Zwoll, Calhoun Middle High School Senior was selected to perform as the 1st chair percussionist in Marshall University’s Wind Symphony.

Students are nominated for honor bands by their band directors. Once selected, students are required to send an audition video. Students are then screened and placed in chairs, with 1st chair being the most coveted position.

On February 9-11, students rehearsed advanced concert band repertoire for a showcase performance on the 11th. It is no easy feat to learn 4-5 songs in one weekend!

Marshall University receives hundreds of nominations. To accommodate, three tiers of bands are available.

  • Concert band – This if the first tier for entry level High school students. An average but outgoing students will likely be placed here.
  • Symphonic Band – This is for intermediate level High school students. Students who work regularly to enhance their skills likely land within this level.
  • Wind Symphony – This ensemble is reserved to the most advanced placements and poses the most challenging repertoire.

Zenna earned the top spot in the top band. Congratulations from Ridgeview News and the folks in your County.
