The Mountain State is resolute in reclaiming its future

Martinsburg, WV – Although West Virginia has borne the tragic distinction of the highest overdose rate per capita for nearly a decade, the Mountain State is resolute in reclaiming its future. Through the grassroots efforts of The Hope Dealer Project, West Virginia is making history by leading a statewide movement towards recovery and hope

In a groundbreaking achievement, Martinsburg became the first city in West Virginia to go purple during National Recovery Month in September 2023. This milestone was swiftly followed by a monumental endorsement from the Governor, proclaiming that the entire state of West Virginia would go purple. With this powerful proclamation in hand for September 2024, The Hope Dealer Project is unwavering in its mission to ensure that all 55 counties in West Virginia will go purple.

The Go Purple initiative, founded in the US, symbolizes a unified stand against substance abuse and a commitment to supporting those in recovery. By going purple, communities raise awareness, foster a culture of understanding, and promote resources for addiction recovery. This initiative is a clarion call for solidarity, aiming to break the stigma surrounding addiction and celebrate the journey of recovery.

The purpose of the initiative is to galvanize communities, highlight the importance of recovery resources, and inspire collective action against the opioid crisis. It is a testament to the power of community-led efforts in effecting change and offering hope to those affected by addiction.

To mark this momentous occasion, The Hope Dealer Project will be hosting the West Virginia Goes Purple Recovery Fest: Embracing Hope and Healing on September 28, 2024. This event will be a day of celebration, awareness, and solidarity, welcoming all members of the community. There will be opportunities for recovery resource providers to set up vendor tables, providing vital information and support to attendees.
