Eugene “Gene” Deel Obituary

On January 9, 2025 Eugene “Gene” Deel. 94, passed away peacefully at Ravenswood Village, Ravenswood, WV.

​Gene was born at Stinson WV on August 2, 1930 to the late Arley Moses Deel and Donnie Frances Parsons Deel. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Iwana Fern Deel, an infant son, Michael Eugene Deel, and brother, Roger Deel. ​He is survived by one son Ricky (Thomasina) Deel of Pfleugerville, TX and one daughter Cheryl (Terry) Hersman of Ripley, WV; six grandchildren Betsi (Dustin) Foster of Paris, TN, Billy (Denise) Deel of Milan, TN, Megan (Roel) Flores of Pfleugerville, TX, Jada (Chris) Williams of Ripley, WV, Brandon (Kendra) Hersman of Ripley, WV, Darrin (Lauren) Hersman of Fort Thomas, KY; eleven great-grandchildren, Scotty Bizeau, Jack and Persie Foster, Lucas Deel, Coco Flores, Colson, Amaris, and Briley Williams, Brody and Korie Hersman, and Everett Hersman. ​

Gene lived in Calhoun County most of his life before moving to Parkersburg, WV. He was an active member of the community helping with ramp dinners, the Volunteer Fire Department and orchestrating the widening of the Minnora Cemetery bridge and the constructing of the shelter at the cemetery. Gene was a 50+ year member of the Mason’s Lodge #83 at Linden and was also a member of the Parkersburg Shriners. He was a proud Marine Corps Veteran having served on the front lines during the Korean War. He spent 40+ years as an employee of Dominion Resources formerly Hope Natural Gas and Consolidated Natural Gas where he was a bailing machine operator, mechanic and well tender. He was fun loving, enjoyed camping, and loved to be on the road to somewhere especially Nashville and Pigeon Forge. ​

Gene was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff at Ravenswood Village. A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 1440 Arnoldsburg Road, Arnoldsburg, WV, on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Minnora Cemetery.
