I am not sure who Kevin is but I agree with his post in the Ridge View News.
Kevin has got it right!
As I mentioned in my letter to Ridge View News and the Calhoun Chronicle our council seems to be trying to appeal to the wants of the new well to doer’s as well as the more fortunate of the county instead of the reality of the majority of people who have lived here for years and families that have lived here for generations. It appears that they would like to push out the people who have lived here for years for the dollars of the new well to do money class they are trying to attract. Its already almost impossible for younger local residents to afford buying property in Calhoun.
The rich have already taken our mineral, lumber, and gas resources and shipped them out of the county, country and state with very little reward going to the state and the county’s average peron. In lieu of us paying that price we paid that price in exchange for the freedom afforded us here in Calhoun. Now it looks like our land and homes are on the chopping block. Our Congressman, Senators and Governor need to look at what is happening to our culture and our people. Is Patrick Morrissey for the people or the dollars? Just because you believe the law is on your side does not make it morally correct.
It is amazing some of the new provisions in the Dilapidated Building Ordinance…starting with the right for the county to access private property without the owners permission of said property, the right to choose a contractor to do possible demolition of a private owner’s property… and then put a lien on said property… that you have invested in for years because you cannot meet the commission’s time line or struggle to come up with the financial assets to meet their demands. If you fail to comply…one of their solutions is to sell your property or they will put a lien on your property…that looks like one step away from property confiscation… what kind of government does that sound like? (Read your history)
After talking with some of my neighbors and being educated about what has been happening for the last few years and the players being involved… I have concluded, in my opinion, its a land grab starting with higher taxes and increased regulations as the current tools of choice to achieve that goal…more will come.The quest for power and money can never be fulfilled until all power and money is achieved. The result will be the current residents being displaced and replaced with wealthier people moving in to increase the tax money and finance the desire for power of a select few. A number of these players are known by our citizens. I myself was unaware until my neighbors enlightened me and with the information they shared with me it became crystal clear information what is happening.
With that being said the results will turn Calhoun County into the place all of the new residents came from. If the people putting this new ordinance in place don’t like it here why shouldn’t they be required to move to an area that they are longing to turn Calhoun into to. Remember the old saying “love it or leave it” The majority of the people of Calhoun love it here.
Until now Calhoun is one of the freest places I know of… that’s its charm that is what makes it special!
We are now opening the door for neighbors to turn against neighbors. Examples; I don’t like someone’s old tractor, I don’t like their cows…they are coming on my property or the cows just happen to be next door, or I don’t like the little business my neighbors are running next door or I just don’t like my neighbors so I will complain… looks like a community civil war is possible. Most of these situations are on private property and not accessable unless you are trespassing…which is against the law… go figure.
How irresponsible is this
to possibly start confrontations among a population that have been together for years. The result is the people in charge are in affect fomenting a feud…as two of my neighbors eluded to in our conversations this past week.
Everyone knows infrastructure is the issue not old barns when it comes to improving our county. Any honest citizen knows this…no reliable phone service no reliable Internet no city water (how many had to haul water last year during the drought?) How often do you loose power? Many of our public services are in need of support.
I accept these shortfalls in exchange for freedom. As we loose our freedoms it is virtually impossible to reclaim them once they are taken from you!
We believed our elected officials who sought office would help us not arrogantly try to control us… apparently it appears they are looking out for the special interest of Calhoun not the majority of its people…who is actually benefiting from this? Follow the money and follow who is in the middle of this. Its surely not the common citizens of Calhoun. Follow the money.
These comments are based on my understanding of the ordinance and information shared with me by fellow citizens of Calhoun…these conclusions are my opinions only. I am not an experienced writer so forgive any errors I have made. This is from the heart.
I saw this before in Owen County, Indiana…this is just the beginning of what they have planned for you… this is serious business. When I experienced this before three hundred people showed up at the meetings
and stopped it. I was also informed this week by a dear friend in Nicholas County that these tactics were tried in Nicholas County and hundreds of citizens showed up at the next meeting and put a stop to it. You have the right and the power to stop this you are the voter!
I personally didn’t move to Calhoun County to try to change it I moved here to live it. As it is what I experienced in Indiana eventually brought me to Calhoun in the search for freedom.
It appears to me that this ordinance was probably copied and pasted with only the names of the locality changed which means this was not even drafted with Calhoun’s real needs being addressed.
Calhoun County don’t loose what you have it is very special!
If you think this years taxes went up you are right and that is the just the beginning of what they have in store for you and the price to be paid…it will be a whole lot more than the increase in your county taxes this year.
Let’s see what they have instore for the people who dare to speak out.
As neighbors and fellow Calhoun County people have your neighbors back and be concerned about their well-being and reach out to those being put upon.
I’m sure as I learn more there will be more that needs to be said.
As I am finding out, like myself, a lot of people are now just finding out about this ordinance.
