The Saturday afternoon “Bingo game at the Creston Community Building was a wild success with folks having a good time playing and visiting with friends. The next game will be Saturday, April 4 with the game starting at 1 P. M. Naomi Toler called the numbers.
Tuesday evening at 7 P. M. The Wirt County Farm Bureau will have the March meeting at the Fire Station in Elizabeth. A veterinarian will discuss the problem cattlemen are having with cows having dead calves and weak or not properly developed calves. Back last fall when the deer were dying we were told that the disease “did not impact cattle”. However, a cow did die over near Little Hocking and it was shown that she had the “deer disease”. Seems that perhaps the DNR folks were giving out bad information. Of course all this could indicate terror activity or biological warfare. After Dr. Fauci and his disease and the now deemed unsafe “vaccine” no one knows what to believe.
There was a big rock & mud slide at the red cut on W. Va. (just before junction with the Munday road) Route 5. The Wirt crew cleaned up the mess.
The Creston bridge continues to be an item. One DOH spokesperson said a new bridge was being designed and right-9f-way was being negotiated but another said that the holdup was the federal government’s study of the newly discovered mussel found in the Little Kanawha. Efforts are being made to get an answer from down in the lower Potomac swamps.
Local folks attended Mike Graham’s funeral in Parkersburg. Brother Roger could not come because of an ice storm where he lived in Pennsylvania and it was reported that brother Steve has cancer very bad.
Creston had unseasonably warm weather and the local Amphibian chorus was singing in full force. Julia Joyce’s daffodils are now in bloom as are crocuses, hairy bittercress, chickweed and jill over the ground. Some dandelions are almost big enough to pick for greens. Local streams had been up but have now gone back down.
A pot hole on I-79 is so bad that a local sheriff’s deputy was stationed nearby to help those who had damage. Dimbulb, the state road man, had one of his PR people put out a press release saying that folks would have to wait until warm weather so hot mix could be used to do a “proper patch”. Seems that the PR person didn’t know that the top grade cold mix was better that regular hot mix and if properly installed the patch would outlast the surrounding pavement.
A local fellow had occasion to go over to Spencer one day last week and at the head of Tom’s Run there were five deer together including one buck who still had his antlers.
The other night a woman cried out in terror as there was something in her eye and it hurt. Her husband got the lights on and discovered that one of the Clintons’ Asiatic beetles was in her eye. Once removed the eye felt much better.
One warm night a bat was found flying in the bedroom. Finally the creature landed on the wall and by use of a towel it was captured and placed outside.
Enron which now goes under the name of EOG reported that last year they drilled 85 Utica oil wells in Ohio with a net profit of $5 billion. Enron, under the then name of Belco was a partner in the Bruce Bell well at Sanoma and the firm has leaseholds in the Creston area [that were hidden from the bankruptcy proceedings].
Moher Hope announced that the company is to build 30 miles of 24″ line to service the proposed new AI data center in Mason County. Seems the ‘powers that be’ don’t want to talk about the proposed data center/ power plant at the mouth of Katy’s Run.
Back when the Marietta College folks were assisting the Wirt oil & gas group [to obtain fair leases, etc.] they reported that the Marcellus shale in Wirt [and surrounding counties] was equivalent of the Marcellus shale in Monroe County Ohio. Now there are several Marcellus wells being drilled there because there are lots of liquids the high dollar items that Antero wants to be given for free in their new leases. Some believe that local folks should, once again, get together to assure fair treatment for local folks dealing with leasing world class mineral rights.
The little skirmish with the mullahs in Iran has made a lot of news with President Trump getting his opposition to come out in support of those folks who have chanted “Death to America” for the last 47 years. One of the big hues & cries has been, ‘Oh, it’s going to make gasolene higher than the moon.’ The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude rose from $66.02/bbl. To $73.66/bbl. West Texas intermediate went to $90.90/bbl. And Brent (North Sea) crude fetched $92.69/bbl. Meantime gasolene in some instances took a jump of $1/gallon or $42/bbl. Which would reflect $100/bbl. Crude oil. Because of the shale revolution and Trump’s drill baby drill policies the United States is not dependent on crude from the sands of Araby or the deserts of Persia. As a historical note Jimmy Carter (and his buddy Burt Lance) said we should get all our oil from Mr. Lance’s “friends”.
The Iran terrorists struck the Gulf Arabs with missiles and such causing Qatar (said to be Iran’s buddy) to shut down their LNG facility which caused an immediate price jump in Europe which should reflect in the natural gas price here. Gas was $3.19/MMBTU. Condensate rose to $55.66/bbl. With Marcellus & Utica light bringing $62.66/bbl.
