Creston News week of May 18th

Last week the big news in Creston & elsewhere was the election.  Steve Settle whose mother & grandfather live in Creston defeated incumbent Bob Gunnoe for Wirt County Commissioner.  Down in Wood County the knives went deep, blood was “spilled”, perhaps some old scores settled and, likely, healing is not in the near future.  On Monday before the election a Karen with a nose ring [brings one to mind the song sung at Conservation Camp, “Oh the cannibal king with the big nose ring . . .”] drove up from Charleston to pick up the campaign signs at the junction of Ann’s Run Road and W. Va. 5.  She stated she worked in right-of-way in Building 5 and oversaw billboards on the state rights-of-way.  When asked about billboards that get free rent & questions of actual right-of-way locations she got nervous and said to call the governor.  Most of the signs that she took were folks that the governor supported and the joke of it all was that after the taxpayers paid for her to drive to Creston from the Mouth of the Elk she did not find the campaign signs that were near the Creston polling place.

On the state wide scene Rambo actually was elected intermediate court judge.  Once the old picture from the front page of a local paper makes the news W. Va. May again be the butt of national jokes.

Tammy Duckworth spent the weekend enjoying the LaFayette Hotel in historic Marietta Ohio.

Renee Lynch Gray’s granddaughter told Santa last year that she wanted a sewing machine for Christmas.  Well the machine was in the sleigh and now the proud seamstress has made a beautiful quilt.

Dennis Norman, Chuck Cogar, Ed Hardman, Watson and Wyler Sheppard & Whistle McIntyre were all attending to business in Creston.

Eli Ferrell and three others set a new school record in the 4 x 400 Little Kanawha Valley Christian School track meet.

Judith Marie Wise, age 65, of Spencer passed away.  She was the widow of Sherman Wise.

The USDA’s multiflora rose has been in bloom as an example of bad government programs that never ,ever go away.  Oh, it will never spread; it will be a wonderful living fence.  If there are a bunch of bureaucrats who cannot be fired they can be tasked to use hand tools to eradicate the roses and autumn olives.

Barbara Wright & Kathleen Cervone visited with Charles Russell at the family day event at Minnie Hamilton Extended Care Unit on Saturday.

Some local residents have been dealing with a nasty respiratory problem.

The Wirt state road crew has been moving the berms on the side roads in Creston making them look sharp.  Now, perhaps the Ann’s Run road can get a new top.

The Creston area received some rain which was a good thing, especially in view of incipient drought.  Some folks down in Clay County had some fine looking potatoes.  Brings to mind visions of fresh creamed new potatoes.

The Pennsylvania PUC [Public Utility Commission] at the bidding of the “antis” placed a new tax on data centers in the Keystone state which should make it much easier to locate the centers in West Virginia.  It has now been determined that the major funding for the opposition to AI and data centers, nominally lead by Socialist Bernie Sanders, is funded by Dictator Xi who rules in Peking, China.  AI was used to facilitate the wipeout of the forces of the mullahs who still shout “Death to America”.  Perhaps a few more “love taps” there so they can “earn” their 72 virgins.

The Iran war has forced some to look at energy supplies without rose colored glasses that say that “global warming” is “real”.  One recent comment noted that the problem with methane from livestock is no big thing.  After all when the buffalo roamed there was no problem.

Mother Hope came to Creston and pulled a gas meter that was owned by another.

The price of Pennsylvania grade crude rose to $104.42/bbl. With condensate fetching $86.42/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light bringing $93.42/bbl.  Brent (North Sea) crude had been $109,26/bbl. And natural gas (elsewhere) is $2.96/MMBTU.  Local natural gas on the DTI (now Warren Buffett) system is just $1.7530.  Creston area crude oil sold last month brought $94.12/bbl.
