The big news around Creston [and other places] was rain, high water and flooding. Several roadways around Creston were under water with some feet in the Ann’s Run road in front of the Creston Community Building. Because of the flooding the Creston ATV Poker run couldn’t be set up Friday & the event had to be cancelled, much to the dismay of many as it would have been a very muddy wet & fun ride. The event has been cancelled with the next poker run in the spring.
Homes in other parts of the county were flooded and many round hay bales were lost and it was reported that at least one ended up on a state road. Many sections of road were damaged and locally the worst place is on the Richardsonville Road at the mouth of Blacksnake where, if things go wrong, the entire road will end up in the West Fork. When the river crested water was level with the roadway of the Little Creek bridge. The green weenies said flood was because of “global warming’. Global warming was said to cause drought, the planet catching on fire & dozens of killer hurricanes. Seems this year there have been none. A major in toke rolling in college probably doesn’t train one well for being a meteorologist but he did get filthy rich at taxpayer expense & then bought mansions along the ocean that were supposed to be flooded.
The next Creston bingo game will be Saturday, October 10.
The government stink bugs have returned to torment local residents. The bureaucrats who introduced the pests should be made to go around and gather them all up by hand.
Japanese stilt grass is now in bloom. It needs to be pulled up by the roots before it seeds. The exotic plant puts toxins in the soil that kill or inhibit native vegetation.
Local residents have to contend with power surges and the power company folks have made it clear that there is no plan for any local upgrades.
The Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank announced that economic growth in the nation is now happening at an amazing 5% rate the highest in a long time and the poverty rate hit an all time low & for the first time in a long time construction and manufacturing jobs are coming back and the average wage is going up. No doubt the DSA (communist party) is furious that their doom & gloom story is so obviously false. Along those thoughts of economic growth, a new interchange with a bridge across the river to no place is currently underway on Corridor G (US 119) in Boone County. The talk is that cores are being made (or studied) of the Rogersville shale so that wells could be drilled to fuel an on site power plant for a major data center on the site which is large, flat, etc and has no near neighbors to raise a fuss [after being riled up by foreign funded ‘ativists’.
Noah John Westbrook II, age 59, passed away. He was a grandson of Roscoe & India Hopkins who operated the Jungle Drive In Theater near Parkersburg and was the great grandson of Tom Alec Hopkins whose job was to round up logs that escaped the Creston boom or that did not make it down the West Fork to the boom.
A few years back the Wirt Oil & Gas group was told that the Marcellus shale in Wirt County was equivalent to the formation found in Monroe County Ohio where now there has been both Marcellus & Utica drilling. Recently the Wayne National Forest had a lease sale for 2,776.84 acres in Monroe & Washington counties in Ohio that netted over $11 million in bonus bids. One 49 3/4 acre had a bid of $9,751/acre and a tract of219 ½ acres fetched $7,001/acre and 18 parcels went for $6,000/acre or more. The biggest bidder was Wexford Pennsylvania based Apex Energy III, LLC, a firm that was last in the news when they sold some assets to CNX Resources for just over$500 million. The firm now talks about their “Riverbend Asset”. In addition to the Marcellus the Utica is 1100 feet thick in Wirt & Calhoun counties while ‘only’ 800 feet thick in Boone County. Perhaps Apex could acquire a large acreage position in this area.
New homes in New York state are not allowed to have natural gas for heating & cooking and there is a “freeze” on data centers in the Empire state but Onondaga County New York is to pay $13 million to lay a gas line to Micron a chip factory. The chips are used in data centers. Nothing untoward there now is there?
Misty Hollow Energy & Data Center is to build a 300 MW power plant to run a data center in Butler County Pennsylvania.
Greg Kozera from the Shale Crescent recently hosted a foreign company that is looking for sites for their high energy manufacturing business. The firm makes products that presently are imported from the Peoples Republic of China. The visitors noted that they were coming to shale country because you have a large & existing market, a stable operating environment, low tax rates compared to other regions, low cost of doing business, abundant, dependable economical energy and raw materials and access to roads, rail & river transportation. Is anyone down at the Mouth of the Elk working to get such facilities in the area?
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude oil fell to $90.41/bbl. With condensate fetching $73.41/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light was $80.41/bbl.
