Alice Miller Holmes Announces Candidacy

I, Alice Holmes, have officially filed to run for the commissioners unexpired term.

I am a resident of the Center District of Calhoun County. My husband’s family has lived in Calhoun County their entire life. I have been a member of Five Forks Community Church for many years.

I am the mother of three children and grandmother to seven.

I’m not a politician but I’m a business woman and that is how I would operate the position of commissioner.

As the Executive Director/Founder of the non-profit, Grantsville Conservatory of Music and Fine Arts, (GCMAFA) I work daily with the community, providing musical training and opportunities for children and adults spotlighting the rich Appalachian cultural available to this area. In addition, traditional Appalachian dance is available. We also continue add programs that will support the community. These experiences have and will continue to improve the quality of life for students and the Calhoun County community while promoting a positive image of West Virginia.

One other business I own is Holmes Venture Corp.  I provide mortgage documents and loan closings for many banks and title companies all over West Virginia.

I also own and operate Homes Venture Corp /DBA Alice’s Attic Music Store. We sell musical instruments along with food and ice cream and provide a place for our local talent to gather and play music.

Before GCMAFA

My husband and I owned and operated a trucking company for 6years. I had a CDL license, and could fulfill any position necessary to keep the daily jobs going. If an employee was out I could drive, dispatch or do accounting. Whatever was needed at any given time.

Before shutting down the trucking company I was hired as a superintendent for a large construction company located in Washington DC. I have experience managing several contracted jobs occurring at the same time.  With a crew of professionals in a very diverse community. Supplying every job with equipment, operators, trucks, truck drivers and material on a daily basis

I would like to expand on my previous service to the community by taking what I learned from hands on experience to the commissioner’s office. I will work diligently to bring water to the folks that have been waiting for years to have something most of us take for granted. Show more support to our law enforcement and first responders. Focusing on tourism and our local parks would be a priority. We have been blessed with beautiful parks in our county and fantastic Dark Skies Star Gazing Parties. All of which will attract tourism.

Best Regards

Alice Miller Holmes
