The Calhoun County Solid Waste Authority will be having their September meeting on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025 at 5 p.m.
The meeting will be held at “Mom’s Place Too” at 340 Main Street in Grantsville.
The monthly Tire Collection will be Friday September 19th, 2025 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Monthly program makes it easier for residents to dispose of old tires responsibly
In 2022, Calhoun County resident Lisa Cooper recognized a problem that needed attention: What to do with old, unwanted tires. She stepped up and wrote a grant to fund for proper tire disposal. Her efforts paid off, and since then she has successfully secured a grant every year to keep the program alive.
Thanks to her leadership more than 8,000 tires have already been recycled – tires that might otherwise have ended up in streams, fields, or illegal dumps.
Tires can quickly become an eyesore and a breeding ground for mosquitos if they aren’t disposed of properly. This program gives residents a safe and convenient way to get rid of them, while also helping protect our environment.
The program allows residents to bring up to 10 tires on the third Friday of each month, between 10 am and 2 pm. Participants are asked to provide their name, license plate number, and the number of tires being dropped off.
Lisa’s dedication is a reminder of how one person’s initiative can create a lasting change for anentire community.
