Wilson Ends It With A Walk Off Double
Monday night on Mt. Zion was a battle between Gilmer Middle and Calhoun Middle softball teams. Gilmer came out swinging and hung 4 unanswered runs on the scoreboard. Calhoun’s defense took some time to get started, allowing 4 errors in the field. The Red Devils slowly creeped back to a 5-4 lead going into the top of the 6th inning. The well coached Gilmer team never gave up and was able to tie the game 5-5 going into the 7th. The Titan’s were unable to get a run in the 7th, thanks to pitcher Tempie Legg’s 9 strikeout performance and the Calhoun defense making a showing in the later innings of the game. Going into the bottom of the 7th Calhoun needed just one run to win. Mandy Johnson was Calhoun first batter. She hit a nice hard shot to left field for a single. Then Ari Bremer delivered a nice shot up the middle putting her on safety. After a stolen base Calhoun had runners on 2nd and 3rd. Seventh grader Colbie Wilson steps to the plate and blasts a walk off game winning double over the center fielder. This allows Mandy Johnson to walk across home plate and the devils to come away with the victory 6-5.
