In the sentencing of Nathan Wayne Bush charged with Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Prosecuting Attorney Michael Hicks told Judge Ashley that Mr. Bush had refused to seek treatment and continued to fail drug testing, knowing that he was facing sentencing. PA Hicks further said that “He would bet the farm Mr. Bush wouldn’t pass the drug test that day either.” Although the statement was somewhat said in jest the Prosecutor would have won the bet, Mr. Bush did indeed fail a drug screen.
Nathan Wayne Bush appeared before Judge Anita Ashley on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025 for sentencing. After disputing several items on the pre-investigation report of Alicia Lawson, Probation Officer; Judge Ashley patiently listened to Mr. Bush’s questioning of the NCIC data of his previous criminal history.
Defense Attorney Keisha May told Judge Ashley that Mr. Bush came from a long line of hard workers and was working himself to get his own business. Having been charged with Convicted Felon illegally in Possession of a Gun, Attorney May stated that the evidence did not support the felony conviction and was desiring probation for her client.
Prosecuting Attorney Hicks requested that a jail sentence of one year, which Judge Ashley took that recommendation and handed down the one year sentence to Nathan Bush.
Before being taken into custody and while still standing before Judge Ashley, Nathan Bush began loudly accusing the Judge, saying that she should have recused herself from judging his case because he had hired her several years before as his attorney in his divorce trial. Judge Ashley had no recollection of Mr. Bush being a client. He was removed from the courtroom and taken into custody where he has began serving his one year sentence at the West Virginia Central Regional Jail.
