Creston News the Week of February 23rd

The Creston bingo game is scheduled for March 7 at the Creston Community Building.  Kitchen opens at noon and the games start at 1 P. M.

The cold weather went away and the temperature was almost 70 with daffodils & jonquils quickly coming up and it was reported that crocuses were blooming in Grantsville.  Flocks of robins were seen out & about and earthworms were out so the birds could feed.  Then there was all the talk about blizzards and on Sunday there was enough snow to make the ground white.  Time will tell for later in the week.

The weather has caused all sorts of road problems, rock slides, trees down, etc.  The potholes in the Creston bridge were filled again which was a very good thing.  Some local folks had to motor to Marion & Monongalia counties where ‘real’ potholes were found, some requiring holding onto the steering wheel with both hands firmly.  These were on the main roads, not at the head of “Possum Hollow” & out on “Lonesome Polecat Ridge”.  Even though weather was ideal for cold mix work nothing was being done but, likely reflecting the deep corruption in state government, the crews cutting tree limbs along roadways were out doing their nonsense.  It might be noted that none of the “imperfections in the surface of the roadway” had anything to do with trees along or near the highways.

Cinda Miller, daughter of Ron Miller and the late Judy Hopkins Miller Brooks, passed away.  Like her mother and grandmother, she died from complications of diabetes.  She was the granddaughter of Jonathan dePue (JD) Hopkins, Jr. & Holly Miller.

Watson Shepard was attending to business in Creston.

Cindy Taylor, age 67, of Newark passed away.  She was the sister of the late Pat Anderson.

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude is now $65.39/bbl. With condensate [super mountain high test] bringing $47.39/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light fetching $54.39/bbl.  Now that there is a thaw many roads to full oil tanks are too soft for the oil truck.

Local parents should take note that if their babies are born in 2025, 2026, 2027 & 2028 they qualify for a $1000 investment account that can be added to by parents, employers of parents, etc.  This is a unique way to start folks out with a part of the American dream.

It goes without saying that there has been uproar over the EPA’s ruling that carbon dioxide is not a toxic or noxious gas causing “global warming”.  Tests have shown that CO2 does not hold heat very well.  Now the subsequent “rules” not laws passed by congress are likely all void.  The immediate impact is likely a cost saving of circa $3000 on the cost of new cars.  Then the EPA trashed the Biden era new MATS rule for coal burning power plants and reinstated the 2012 version of the guideline.  It is interesting to note that the government of communist China has vehemently objected to this action.  Obviously the “deep state” is strongly tied to foreign enemies & similar things are obvious from the Epstein files.

A gas fired power plant has been proposed in Monongalia County to improve the power grid but the UMWA [coal mine union] has come out in vehement opposition.  Meanwhile, over in Scioto County Ohio a $33 billion 9.2 gigawatt gas fired power plant has been proposed but now there is frenzied opposition. How dare you?

With a new snow storm in the news the results from the last one, Fern, continue to percolate.  There was a massive withdrawal of natural gas from the storage fields because some lines were frozen off and workmen could not get to wells and facilities that needed attention.  The Henry Hub price of natural gas spiked at $14 and EQT got over $7 for the natural gas that was not hedged.  It was reported that EQT made an extra $billion during the storm.  Now It will be interesting to see if the extra price received for their natural gas will be reflected in royalty checks paid to W. Va. (& Pennsylvania) royalty owners.  It was reported earlier that the February price on the DTI (Warren Buffett) system is $7.15/MMBTU.

One of the invasive black buzzards was seen near Annamoriah one day last week.  Sure Shot Jones & his pal, Dead Eye Dick, need to do their civic duty, SSS. That is shoot, shovel & shut up.

A turkey gobbler was in the road near Cabot Station the other day.

Electric service to Creston’s western suburbs was interrupted again on Friday.  This makes it obvious that local residents need to have heating and cooking facilities that do not require electric to work.  Of course the ‘green weenies’ do not want anyone to use natural gas, wood or coal to heat & cook.

The City Net crews have been busy in the area hooking up internet.  Of course several local folks signed up with Elon Musk’s Starlink which seems to work like a charm even when the power is out [if one has a generator].

Frank Smith got a bunch of chocolate candy on the occasion of his birthday.  He was said to be a very happy man.

Wilma Mowrey has been on the puny list and another woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance on Sunday.
