Several local folks went to and participated in the Wirt County Fair. As per usual the fair brought rain, rain and then more rain. Some tents were blown down but those who attended had a good time. Delegate Erica Moore & state senators Mike Azinger & Trent Barnhart were there visiting with their constituents. Some folks hit the pothole not very far from the fairgrounds. Apparently Engineer Evans’ Core Maintenance Manual didn’t say that before major events the imperfections in the surface of the roadway should be addressed. Perhaps Engineer Evans figured only riff raff would attend a county fair and they wouldn’t know better.
Steve Loudin fell and hurt his back. He got an ambulance ride to the Camden Clark hospital where they “patched him up” & a neighbor brought him back home.
Teddy Ball was attending to business in Spencer.
The Calhoun road crew mowed the berm on W. Va. 5 & the CAT repair man was working on a state road machine in Creston. The Wirt crew finished patching on W. Va. And did not work on repairs on the Ann’s Run Road.
The Creston area received more rain bringing a raise in both the West Fork and the main Little Kanawha.
A group of naked ladies showed up at Creston and, of course, they got everyone’s attention as they are beautiful. Along the roadways the joe pie weed is in bloom as are Jerusalem artichokes.
West Virginia University which used to be an academic institution, since, after all, it is a land grant college, purchased another hospital in Pennsylvania, this time in McConnellsburg. The university also got into a business venture, apparently with Dylan Mulvaney & Bud Light and then another venture with Denver based oil & gas giant Antero Resources. Someone makes sure the legislature does not force production meters from Marcellus & Utica wells to be tested for accuracy. Also Antero is partnering with Buckeye Oil Producers. Buckeye has a field primarily on Yellow Creek in Calhoun County.

MPLX (Marathon Oil) the outfit that operates several of the fractionation plants in the area is now operating at 96% of capacity. Likely the largest plant in the world is at Sherwood in Doddridge County. A new facility is opening in Pennsylvania. Some Creston gas is 18% ethane and that gas goes to Warren Buffett’s facility at Hastings Station at Pine Grove in Wetzel County.
There was a party for Connie Mollohan on the occasion of her turning 60. The real estate agent who did the dealing on her real estate purchase & sale came as did her cousin Karen Courtney who lives in Reedy.
Watson & Wyler Sheppard, Asher & Kolton Propst & Zac from Pentera were all attending to business in Creston.
Rusty Hutson, Jr.’s Diversified Gas & Oil Corp. Has now acquired a drilling rig which Rusty is sending to Oklahoma.
Local folks continue to get calls about “all the benefits they can get from Medicare & medicaid, cash for rent & groceries, over the counter items, etc.”. Then one reads about the fraud that is being found in the Medicare system, which, as some say, was set up to facilitate fraud. One wonders if some of us are, unbeknown to us, part of the fraud scheme. Obviously the callers have access to our records.
EOG, formerly known as Enron [the ones who used to rent the Lincoln bedroom], announced that their purchase of Ohio Utica from Encino has paid off. The firm says they are now producing 548.8 MBOD & the net profit for the year was $2.7 billion.
Dominion Energy announced in their annual report that the firm was writing off ‘a nine figure sum’ for the renewables that had been hyped. Apparently they were not able to get power from Pixie Dust.
Al Gore Jr. who made a fortune hyping global warming said the world would “catch on fire” but he had no science background. Seems what is happening that there is a greening of the planet. That is to say there is more vegetation and especially in dry regions like sub Sahara Africa. Of course the plants take the CO2 out of the air and thus make more food for herbivores that make more tasty meals for humans.
Barb Wright got a new rooster to keep company with her hens. He took his job very seriously so when Barb went in the henhouse to check on her flock Chanticleer thought she was going to harm ‘his’ hens and he flogged her, got both legs with his spurs. Some while back Barb caught Mr. ‘Coon trying to get into the henhouse and she put the nozzle of the 22 to his head. Then Mr. Coon tried to bite the rifle, which, of course, was a fatal mistake.
The folks who had HG Energy now have, as of August 3 a new firm Mercury Energy, LLC.
Mother Hope, the old Rockefeller family company that now operates as Hope Gas, has asked the PSC for a rate increase. It would seem that the poor Rockefeller children need new shoes before school starts. While the price of natural gas elsewhere is $2.66/MMBTU the price to local producers on the DTI/Warren Buffett system is just $1.31 or about 1/5th of the price producers received 20 years ago. Hope Gas does some big high dollar advertising “where it counts” but someone should review the numbers as to the price of gas now as to what the company paid back then. By rights domestic gas prices should be sliced. As a former PSC lawyer said some years ago the agency exists to protect the firms that they regulate.
The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude is $76.18/bbl. With condensate fetching $59.18/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light bringing $66.18/bbl. Gasolene in Parkersburg could be purchased for $3.55/gallon.
