Sr. Trooper J.D. Richards filed a complaint in the Magistrate Court of Calhoun County on March 27, 2026 stating that on Thursday, March 26th, 2026, he was contacted by WV 5th Circuit Probation Officer Alisha Lawson who provided him with information on one of her probationers- George Wayne Butt.
Trooper Richards was advised by Probation Officer Lawson that Mr. Butt had a phone number associated with the WVSP Sex Offender registry that had been disconnected for over 30 days.
On February 23rd, 2026 Probation Officer Lawson reported to Trooper Richards that she attempted to contact Mr. Butt via his home phone and at that point it was disconnected. On March 26th, 2026, Trooper Richards accompanied by CPL. B.E. Young of the WVSP Grantsville Detachment called this number to check its status which was still disconnected.
On the same date, Trooper Richards was also advised by Probation Officer Lawson that Mr. Butt had an alternative Facebook profile for 10 business days as well, which was attached to the complaint as exhibit 1 to and then his new Facebook account that is not on his Registry. This Facebook profile is under George Butt rather than his longer standing profile George Allen – which is his Media Alias – which is on his registry.
Trooper Richards found that Mr. Butt had been convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender in Roane County on 08/07/2023 for which he now faces a second charge.
A warrant in Calhoun for Second offense Failure to Register as a sex offender was issued and Mr. Butt was arrested on the 9th of April 2026. He is currently being held in the WV Central Regional Jail with bond being set at $60,000.
A Preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 14th, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. in Calhoun Magistrate Court before Magistrate Richard Postalwait.
