Grantsville City Government Continues to Prove Unstable

Ridgeview News was notified this morning that newly elected Grantsville Town Recorder Shannon Waldron has resigned. This, as questions continue to arise about the stability of the Calhoun County Seat’s local Government.

Ridgeview News asked Mayor John Villines this morning, Tuesday, August 19th, 2025, if it were true that Waldron had resigned for which he answered that she did.

In addition to Waldron resigning it was reported that the former Mayor, Robert Petrovsky had been seen in the Grantsville City building assisting staff. When Mayor Villines was asked why this was happening he stated “They’re here to help me get bills paid because I don’t know this system.”

During the August 4th, 2025 Town Council Meeting much of the discussion stemmed from the discovery of a $2,500 over payment to the former Mayor Petrovsky and the need for a forensic audit.

When Ridgeview spoke with Shannon Waldron this morning, she was broken hearted about her decision to resign. It did not come as an easy decision for her knowing that 54 citizens had taken the time to write her name in the ballot sheet box. Waldron said that she would own the fact that when she agreed to run for the Recorder position, she did not fully understand the depth of responsibility including, that it was not only Recorder, but City Treasurer as well. She immediately became overwhelmed with the amount of work which far exceeded any part time position. She does not believe that the position can be handled in a part-time method and provided the following letter of resignation as explanation for her decision to resign.

Mayor Villines provided the following documentation of how the recorder position will be filled.
