Janice Gayle Johnson Hullender of Sutton West Virginia peacefully went to her heavenly home August 5, 2025 as her faithful sister and caregiver, Donna Gay Hawkins, by her side, holding her hand .
After 85 years, she leaves behind so many that felt privileged to have known and loved her. Born to the late Rev. Edward Donnell and the late Jo (Horner) Johnson May 31, 1940, in Greensboro, N.C.
Janice was the firstborn of 4 daughters. She would say she was the twin to our mother. She was known to many as “Little Jo”.
She had a God given ability to play the piano, any song she heard, without ever taking piano lessons. She wanted to further her ability and took lessons. She would practice diligently to the point she surpassed her own piano teacher. She played beautifully both the organ and the piano.
She was accomplished in many areas but when she became a Barber that led her to owning her own shop. This is where she met her husband, Cliff. He was the love of her life.
Janice being quick witted entertained us all with her numerous stories of life experiences. She was able to have us laughing. She was a joy to us all.
In addition to her parents Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Howard Cliffton Hullender II 2009, her daughter Danielle Cook 1996, a sister, Lynda Clemmer 2017 and her brother-in law Ed Clemmer 2024.
Janice leaves behind two sisters Donna Gay (Pat) Hawkins, Terre Leigh (Chuck) Baden. Sons, Stevan (Rhonda) Cook, Roddy (Jane) Cook, Stepsons, Howard Cliffton Hullender III (Chip) and Chief Master Sgt. Michael Christian Hullender ( Retired) and Nine Grandchildren.
In later years, she had a compassion to rescue dogs that were abandoned. Her love for each one was evident in how she cared for them.
There will only be a private ceremony for family. If anyone desires to give, in lieu of flowers, Janice would be honored if you would contribute to your local rescue animal shelter. She loved her rescued pets.
Janice
I see you running
Arms open wide
Into the arms of Jesus
Family by your side.
All gone before you
They are all there.
No more pain, no more tears
Nothing can compare.
Joy Unspeakable.
Heaven is gained.
All because of believing
In Jesus Name.
For all Eternity
Let Praises ring.
Glory, Hallelujah
To our Savior and King.
When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing
that will be.
When all see Jesus.
We’ll sing and shout
the Victory!!!
