The Old School Welcomes back the Old Field for some New Adventures

The long awaited, hard fought and much anticipated day has finally come. The 1982 Foundation announced yesterday that the Wayne Underwood Field has been rejoined to the Calhoun County High School of 1921.

Crystal Mersh, President of The 1982 Foundation stated ”We are humbled and honored to be presented with this precious property and we will see that it is well developed and maintained. We are already working on design plans for the pool with CEC Engineering and hope to have a final plan soon so we can get the final estimates and begin construction.”

The Foundation hopes that by June of 2023 the new facility will be the cool spot to hang out in Grantsville.

As I left the field yesterday from taking the above photo, beneath the press box lay this board with an unfinished quote that I thought was quite fitting for the day.

A web search of the quote has several versions but the one most fitting the Old School in all it’s glory:

”We are a team, whatever you lack, I got you. We will balance each other out. Minor set back? We’ll make a better comeback!”

Construction continues all around the property including the picnic pavilion that will be available soon to host community events.
