Creston News week of October 13th

Beautiful fall weather continues to be the norm in Creston with cool nights and sunny days and, so far, no visits from Jacques Frost.  Folks are feasting on late green beans, corn, tomatoes, peppers, Kohl rabis & Brussels sprouts.

Kenny Lemley won the crossbow that was raffled off by the Creston Community Building.

The Creston Halloween party will be Saturday October 25 from 5 until 8 at the Community Building.  This is the event where ‘children’ of all ages can dress up and be somebody.  In the past various notables have made their appearances at Creston.  Donations of candy & assistance with the event are needed.

The gendarmes were calling in Creston the other day and now some local residents are sojourning over in Doddridge County.

Some local folks spent some time up in Ohio Amish country and some other local folks plan to go this coming week.  The lines of folks waiting to dine at Boyd & Wurthman’s in Berlin & Mrs. Yoder’s in Mount Hope were ‘unreal’.  There were four church vans & buses from the Elkview Baptist Church at Yoder’s store at Ashery on SR 241. The corn & soya beans look good with most beans ready to combine.

Speaking of soya beans those farmers now have a problem with low price because for several years China has purchased a significant percentage of the US crop.  Now, since Chinese dictator Xi’s candidate didn’t win for president there have been zero purchases of US soya beans in 2025.  Most Creston folks aren’t into tofu so there will not be much help locally.

The removal of illegal aliens has been in the news quite a bit and the story always has been that the illegals do jobs “that Americans won’t do”. Out in Iowa an illegal with a criminal record became a school superintendent for $300.000/annum plus a county car & other perks. One might wonder how many more are just like that.

There will be an AI/Energy meeting October 16 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Pittsburgh. Bryce Custer of Ohio River Corridor, LLC will speak about the W. Va. Governor’s plan for new electric power plants to operate data centers while over in Virginia [according to tee vee ads] the promoters there want all the AI & data centers built there not near where the energy is generated.

The United Nations Net Zero Banking Alliance has now crashed & burned after the big US banks withdrew from globalist venture.  Seems now the US bankers grew spines & ignored the climate scammers.

R. L. Laughlin from Charleston had a crew checking out a gas meter on Owl Hill.

Martin deVries was doing some work at the Creston Space Dock.

Angie Adams, the Wirt County Republican chairwoman filed for the House of Delegates as the incumbent in District 14 is not running for reelection.

The folks down at the Mouth of the Elk announced that natural gas severance taxes are up 10.8% over last year to $82.2 million.  The tax is voluntary and based on the honor system since the legislature, so far, has refused to check the meters and information provided by the out of state producers.

Expand Energy CEO Nick Dell’Osso stated that within five years the demand for natural gas in the country will increase 20 bcf [billion cubic feet]/day.  Expand is the combination of Chesapeake and SWN or Southwestern and has several wells in West Virginia.

Local oil & gas men have been walking gas lines looking for leaks.  Seems Old Brer Bar likes to bite into plastic natural gas lines.

Ira J. Lynch is scheduled for shoulder surgery on October 13 while Steve Loudin is consulting with his physician.

  1. C. & J. P. Marks are both having technical difficulties with their chariots.

Folks have to the end of the month to pay their delinquent taxes before they are all turned over to the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office.  Check the list in the newspaper.

There is lots of talk about the great shutdown.  It would seem that most of the world and the nation is doing fine so it can go on “forever” and the “non essential” federal employees should be free to search for employment in the private sector.  Who gave the government the authority to say what kinds of automobiles can be made and what types of vehicles folks can purchase?

The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude dropped to $57.90/bbl. With condensate (super mountain high test) was $39.90/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light was only $46.90/bbl.  Natural gas [elsewhere] is $3.11 and the experts now say that next year it might get to $3.90/MMBTU or less than what had been predicted earlier.

Some folks are having problems with the government stink bugs & the Asiatic beetles the Clintons turned loose to control aphids on pecan trees.  The laid off government men can go around catching the invasive pests when not grubbing the autumn olives and multiflora roses that were planted to “help us”.
