Jeannette Carr Hamilton Bearden
July 17, 1930-August 28, 2026
The last and youngest child of George W. Hamilton and Losie E. (Knotts) Hamilton is coming home. Jeannette and her twin, Howard Cook Hamilton, were born at home in Minnora. She is the niece of Minnie Hamilton for whom the health system has been named.
Jeannette attended the two-room schoolhouse in Minnora, graduated from Calhoun County High School, and received her degree from Glenville State College, after which she taught school. She later moved to Alabama and worked for Montgomery Bus Lines during the aftermath of the 1955-56 boycott. After the birth of her third child, she returned to West Virginia and found employment with the federal government where she worked for decades. She would say her greatest roles were those of mother and grandmother, and to the end of her days she talked with pride of being able to take her children to Disney World in 1973.
Jeannette was preceded in death by Howard Cook, her father George W., her mother Losie E., her siblings: William Hamilton (Audrey), Eileen Hamilton Whitman (Layton), John Hamilton (Dorothy), Edward Hamilton (Edith), Naida Hamilton Ellison (Aundrel), Johanne Hamilton Carpenter, George Hamilton (Mary), and numerous other family members. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She will be laid to rest with her twin in Bethlehem Cemetery in the spring of 2027 with the date to be determined.
