Kathy Jo Butler Cottrell, 52, of Chloe, West Virginia, died Monday, July 14, 2025, at Roane General Hospital, Spencer, WV.
She was born December 10, 1972, in Orville, Ohio, (Wayne County), a daughter of Basil and Janet Bonnell Butler of Chloe, West Virginia.
She is survived by by one son, Trent A. Cottrell (companion Brook Nicholson) of Chloe, WV; one sister, Kimberly Murphy (Keith Murphy) of Prosperity, South Carolina; one brother, Scott D. Butler of Chloe, WV; three aunts, Darlene Cadle of Elkton, Virginia, Bonita Bonnell of Marysville, Ohio, and Marge Butler of Apple Creek, Ohio; three uncles, Keneth L. Bonnell of Marysville, Ohio, and Steve Butler of Apple Creek, Ohio; nephew Tyler Murphy (Morgan Murphy) of Chloe, WV; cousins, Jeremiah Cadle of Charlottesville, VA, Josiah Cadle of Harrisonburg, VA, Amber Griffith of North Chesterfield, VA, Brett Bonnell of Athens, AL, Bryon Bonnell of Smith Station, AL, Brad Bonnell of Marysville, Ohio, Wanda Butler of Greenwich, Ohio, Lisa Hoover of Greenwich, Ohio, Kevin Butler of Butler, Ohio, Kathy Taylor of Wooster, Ohio, Ryan Butler of Los Angeles, CA, Johnny Runion of Willard, Ohio, and Scott Runion of South Carolina; great-nephew, Riggs Murphy of Chloe, WV; and wonderful, life-long friend, Angie Naylor.
She is preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Doy and Ruth Butler of Chloe, WV, maternal grandparents, Clifton and HIlda Bonnell of Rainsboro, Ohio; uncle Teddy Bulter of Chloe, WV, formerly of Willard, Ohio, and nephew, Dakota Murphy of Prosperity, SC.
Kathy was a 1991 graduate of Calhoun High School. She was schooled in industrial sewing. Upon graduation, Kathy been employed at Panther Primitives tent factory of Normantown, WV, Kaiser Roth Co., a hosiery factory in Newberry, SC, and Kellwood Co., a sweater factory in Spencer, WV. Kathy also had quilts on display that she created for Cabin Creek Quilts.
Kathy was a Christian who was a kind and loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend to everyone. She will be missed beyond words.
Kathy’s family would like to thank the whole staff of Miletree Center, Spencer, WV, for the love and care that they gave Kathy during her short stay. They would also like to let all of their friends, family, and neighbors know how much they appreciate all of their thoughtful and kind gestures at this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home & Cremation, Inc., 1440 Arnoldsburg Rd., Arnoldsburg, WV, 25234, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 5:00 p.m., what Reverend Deacon Johnny Butler. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Kathy will be laid to rest in the Butler Family Cemetery at Chloe, WV.
