It didn’t take long after the news of Calhoun County School’s hiring of former Clay County Superintendent, Joe Paxton, for parents to web search his history and discover that he had been released from his contract in Clay County citing differences of opinion with three newly elected board members. After Ridgeview News was contacted by parents, I reached out to a source familiar with the Clay incident who stated “Joe was a disaster in Clay County! Left the school system in a mess.” Further questioning divulged that it was administrative issues that likely caused his release from contract.

For parents of Calhoun County School students any undisclosed information sends up a red flag for someone who will have daily contact with students. The refusal of Calhoun County Schools to keep transparency or accountability with parents does not bade well when issues like this arise and are seldom addressed.

It is with sincerity from Ridgeview News that Mr. Paxton’s fresh start in Calhoun County be viewed as just that, a fresh start. But the days are gone where anyone can think that a fresh start means the mistakes of the past are gone. Getting information from Calhoun County Schools is more of a receipt of riddles than answers. Clay County’s School Board president said that their School System was wanting to go a new direction.
