Pioneer Baseball Tabbed 4th in MEC South Preseason Poll

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Glenville State Baseball has been tabbed to finish 4th in the Southern Division of the Mountain East Conference Coaches’ Preseason Poll, the league announced today.

The Pioneers were picked to finish behind division favorite Charleston, who earned 56 points and eight first-place votes. Concord notched 49 points and two first-place votes while West Virginia State logged the final first-place vote with 45 points ahead of the Pioneers. Glenville State’s 30 points put them in front of West Virginia Wesleyan (21 points) and Davis & Elkins (20 points).

The North Division saw Frostburg State picked to win, as the Bobcats notched 47 points and eight first-place votes. Defending MEC champion, Point Park, scooted in at No. 2 with 41 points and the remaining three first-place votes. Fairmont State (32 points), West Liberty (20 points) and Wheeling (16 points) rounded out the poll.

Glenville State is coming off of a (27-21, 16-14 MEC) mark in 2025, where the Pioneers just missed out on the MEC Tournament. Jimmy Mullins is heading into his 13th season as the head skipper of the Pioneers and he returns key pieces from last year’s squad. All-MEC Second Team selections Carlos De Jesus (3B), Zach Laurie (DH/OF) and Grant Landis (RHP) headline Pioneer returners while starters Trent TaylorColby GuyLuke Sweigart and Quinn Lenamon are all back.

GSU Baseball opens up the 2026 campaign with Mansfield on February 14th to open up a three-game set.
