REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE ON ROCK CAMP ROAD

I don’t like to make a habit of this& in fact try to avoid calling for political help but we have a problem. Back in the spring the Creston Community Building had an ATV poker run and we had 416 riders.  A jeep went along and got hung up on the road going up the hill out of Rock Camp and was stuck for 3 hours keeping other riders from proceeding on the route.  Short story the hill is badly rutted with ditches five feet deep.  In the past I have driven my truck on the road.

I sent a formal request to DOH to ask that minimal work be done so it would be safe for ATV, UTV, etc traffic and so if there was an emergency crews could access the area.  The district engineer wrote that doing such was not part of “core maintenance” and said that the landowner could fix it.

Creston is having a poker run on Saturday, July 19 and Rock Camp is part of our route.  We went down the hill today & the trail clearing crew almost didn’t make it down the hill.  It is dangerous.  I was on the crew.

When I was road supervisor in Wirt County when a member of the legislature asked that an issue be addressed it happened although such was rare.

Thus, I am asking that you please give Doug Murray a call and ask him to please send a ‘dozer for half a day to make the road safe for our riders.  A couple of cut outs and filling in the deep ditches is all that is needed as we do not need anything fancy.  Doug’s deceased cousin Jim Bush was a grader man for the state road & he could have fixed the road with a road grader. It would take a day.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Sincerely yours, Alvin L. Engelke
