Sylvia Bailey, 95 of Glenville, WV; formerly of Smithville, WV; departed this earthly life in the morning hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the Glenville Health and Rehab Center in Glenville WV; following an extended illness.
She was born May 10, 1931 in Cox’s Mills, WV; daughter of the late Earl and Marella (Spurgeon) Gordon.
Sylvia is a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1949. She was a homemaker who loved caring for her family and helped at the family store in Burnt House for many years. She is a Baptist by faith, member of the Auburn Baptist Church, and a member of the Smithville chapter of the CEO’s. In her spare time, Sylvia enjoyed quilting, working word search books, and spending time with family and friends.
On April 8, 1950 Sylvia was united in marriage to Clyde Marling Bailey, who preceded her in death in January 1987.
Surviving are 3 children, Marty Miller (John) of Salem, WV; Mark Bailey (Connie) and Monroe Bailey (Daisy), both of Cox’s Mills, a daughter-in-law, Sherry Bailey of Smithville, and 3 siblings, Rosemary Straub of Hartford, OH; Wayne Gordon (Connie) of Proctorville, OH; and Joan Moyers of Rosedale, WV.
Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other wonderful family and friends.
Along with her parents (Earl and Marella) and husband (Marling), Sylvia is preceded in death by 2 children, Celaine Riddle and Myron Bailey.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary, Inc., 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, WV; 26351 at 3:00 PM; Sunday, June 21, 2026 with Pastor Dwight Goff officiating. Burial will follow in the Horn Creek Cemetery near Cox’s Mills. Friends will be received from 12:00 noon – 3:00 PM; Sunday at the mortuary in Glenville.
