West Virginia State Police Trooper L.E. Whitt filed a complaint in the Magistrate Court of Calhoun County on Sunday, June 7th, 2026 requesting a warrant for the arrest of Susan Wotring.
Trooper Whitt and Trooper Simpkins, on a Traffic stop at the BP Gas station located of route 33 in Arnoldsburg, Calhoun County, pulled toward the gas pumps after having observed a vehicle traveling on Route 33 with defective equipment in the form of a passenger side brake light being non-operational. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Ms. Susan Wotring.
Trooper Whitt observed Ms. Wotring displaying several signs and symptoms consistent with narcotic analgesic use (i.e. bruxism, slurred fast to slow cadence when speaking, dilatated pupils which appeared to have an inconsistent reaction to stimulus, track marks on her legs and arms (indicative of intravenous injection methods), in conjunction with sores both healed over and fresh on her face and body) and asked her to exit the vehicle.
While speaking with Ms. Wotring, she provided materially false statements regarding the observations made by the trooper; to include, stating she did not utilize methamphetamine, the sores on her face and body were “probably just a bad case of poison ivy and stating that she had not used methamphetamine in over a weeks time. Ms. Wotring would later admit that all of these statements were lies conjured by her in order to avoid detection and consequences associated with the habitual use of methamphetamine. She would admit while on scene to being habitually addicted to methamphetamine and using marijuana frequently (including approximately three hours prior to operating the motor vehicle. Ms. Wotring stated she very seldomly became “dope sick” (a colloquial term to describe withdrawal symptoms from narcotic analgesics, opioids, and the derivatives thereof anymore, boasting about how she would typically sleep for an entire day and be “just fine”.) Based on Trooper’s Whitt’s evaluation of Ms. Wotring and her general uncooperative behavior thus far, Ms. Wotring was detained in manacles at this time. She continued to lie to the undersigned troopers by creating illogical narratives surrounding her drug use (i.e. consistently changing the reason for her presence at approximately 0300 hrs, or intimate details surrounding her drug use (ingestion methods) between three separate troopers on scene, and “just finding methamphetamine in her house”) and elected not to assist any trooper on scene with the deterrence of the dangerous drugs plaguing the community.
Trooper Whitt placed Ms. Wotring under arrest at that time for habitual use DUl and three counts of obstruction for every trooper on scene and transported her to the Central Regional Jail.
While in route to the jail Trooper Whitt explained the difference in possessing illegal substances outside of jail (misdemeanor) and concealing them inside the jail (felony). The undersigned trooper then asked Ms. Wotring it she had any illegal substances concealed on or in her person. Ms. Wotring stated she did not. At Central Regional Jails intake and booking area Officer Richard discovered approximately six (6) grams (weighed in packaging for officer safety concerns) of a white crystalized substance inside the corner of a clear cellophane baggy inside of Ms. Wotring’s left front pocket. The white crystalized substance is consistent with the troopers training knowledge and experience to be Methamphetamine. Ms. Wotring described the substance in her pocket as being methamphetamine. Despite Ms. Wotring’s repeated attempts to obstruct law enforcements investigation she is only charged with three counts of providing materially false statements to law enforcement (misdemeanor- Calhoun County), DUI (habitual user of narcotic analgesics)(misdemeanor- Calhoun County), possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine)(misdemeanor- Calhoun County), and Transporting Controlled Substance into a State Correctional Facility (felony- Braxton County). These events did occur in Calhoun and Braxton County WV respectively as listed above.
Susan Wotring is being held on a $3,000 bond in the WV Central Regional jailing. A bond modification hearing has been set for June 12th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Felony charges are pending in Braxton County for Transporting Controlled Substance into a State Correctional Facility
