Jalen Knott Named All-MEC First Team; Elijah Redfern Labeled Second Team

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Glenville State Men’s Basketball standouts Jalen Knott and Elijah Redfernhave been named All-MEC selections, the league announced today in a release. Knott garnered First Team honors with Redfern landing on the Second Team.

Knott, a transfer from Central Missouri, was one of the league’s most prolific scorers at 18.0 PPG on 42% shooting from the field and 38% from behind the arc. The Cleveland, Ohio native averaged a team-leading 4.8 APG with 4.4 RPG and 1.7 SPG from his guard position. Knott scored in double figures 23 times for GSU, including 11 games of 20 or more points and three contests of 30+ points. Knott scored 35 twice, knocking down 11 three pointers against West Virginia Wesleyan a few weeks ago and leading the comeback victory versus Concord with his second 35-point performance. The 6-foot-2 guard also had five or more assists in 11 games, with his best outing coming at Point Park when he dished out 11 assists.

Redfern, who took his game to another level after a standout freshman campaign a year ago, was second on the team in scoring (16.0 PPG) and assists (3.6 APG). Redfern shot 46% from the field, nearly perfecting the 15-foot pull-up jumper in his sophomore season. The Beckley, W.Va. product had double digits in 25 games, including scoring in double figures the first 23 contests of the year. He reached 20 or more points six times and 30 or more points twice, with his season-high coming at West Virginia State when he had 31. Redfern also logged three double doubles for GSU with multiple 10-assist performances.

The Pioneers start postseason play on Friday (Mar. 6) in the Quarterfinals of the MEC Tournament in Wheeling. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. inside WesBanco Arena and will be televised on MECTV.
