Creston News Week of April 13th

The big Creston spring ATV poker run is Saturday, April 25 at the Creston Community Building.  Signups end at noon and riders can leave the building at 9 A. M. After a hearty breakfast of biscuits & gravy.  The rides are fun for all the family with scenic places, lots of water & mud, places for a picnic lunch, etc.

The new roof has been placed on the Creston Community Building and it looks great.  The old original roof had some leaks.

There was a big drug bust in Callhoun County with some folks from Creston, Annamoriah, Brookville & Mt. Zion getting to go to a not so posh resort in Flatwoods.

Jacques Frost came to Creston with temperatures going down in the 20s.  Junior Gore and his “global warming” hot air was not to be seen as likely he was in one of his seaside villas as he knew his talk was all hokum and the sea was not going to flood high dollar shore lines. It has since warmed back up.  Dogwoods & red buds have made road trips colorful and now wild geraniums are blooming as well.

Local retired state road men attended Jackie Simmons’ funeral, Jackie, age 76, succumbed to cancer and was known as an amazing operator — one who could dig a ditch and didn’t need grade stakes. He was also known for his sorghum molasses and corn meal.

Some local folks went to the Boley Breakfast at Cheryl’s Diner on the Staunton Turnpike.  Judge Laura Faircloth, a circuit judge from Berkeley County who is running for the W. Va. Supreme Court, gave a talk and one must say, she was very impressive.  Farm Bureau folks from that part of the state note that she is highly regarded there.

Some local folks went to the Rainbow Grange meet the candidates forum on Route 74 north of Pullman.  The Grange, a/k/a the Patrons of Husbandry, like the Farm Bureau is an organization promoting agriculture & rural life.   Local residents go to see the candidates & and hear their platforms, etc.  In addition to county, house of delegates & State senate candidates, James William Flanigan, a candidate for the other seat on the W. Va. Supreme Court was there and came across as a reasonable human being; someone one could vote for in the May primary.

Folks should be aware that under the “new rules” the Republican primary is closed so if one is registered with no party one has to go the court house by April 21 to change registration.  It should be noted that the primary is very important this time as most of the elections will be determined in the primary.  The “chamber of commerce” and the big university up at Morgantown want to take control of the Republican election and the legislature so folks must act.

It was reported that Ohio has  3 X the data centers that are in Pennsylvania and that there is a race to catch up.  The proposed Pennsylvania facilities will cost $12 billion and will employ 19,400 by 2036.  And in West Virginia, well, duh but isn’t China opposed?   All the elites seem to be too busy playing petty politics to do substantial things to move the state forward.  Some won’t even talk about the proposed power plant/ data center complex at the mouth of Katy’s Run in Wirt & Calhoun counties.  Gov. Morrisey was in Parkersburg for the ceremonial signing of SB 648 concerning essential minerals.  Earlier he signed HB 5381 concerning comprehensive energy development.  One might be concerned that it was PR not any substantive moves.
