The First Baptist Church of Grantsville will be welcoming their new Pastor, Bill Law on Sunday, September 6th, 2026. Pastor Bill is not new to the Town of Grantsville, it’s actually where his journey began. Both Bill and his wife Connie grew up in Calhoun, graduating from Calhoun High School, marrying and having two daughters, Melissa and Brittany who were both graduates of Calhoun County Schools as well.
Following a call into the ministry, Bill served in local churches until leaving Grantsville in 2001 to Pastor the Union Valley Baptist Church in Parkersburg, WV. He preached his trial sermon for that church the Sunday following 9/11 in 2001, stating that it was one of the hardest sermons he’d ever preached, but knew that God had called him to it. The trial sermon was preached at Elizabeth Baptist Church, where Brother Bill stood before a packed church, with even the balcony filled. A frightened and concerned Nation filled many churches that weekend in hopes finding hope for a Country under attack.
Although 9/11 filled the Churches across our country for a short while, COVID had the opposite effect, emptying out most churches during the COVID era, with many not returning to their congregations once the era was over.
Bill Pastored Union Baptist Church, preaching to a congregation averaging 78 people, three time a week, until the end of 2021. Following that retirement, he lasted three months before realizing he couldn’t not serve God. He contacted a Pastor friend and requested to be used for Pulpit Supply and began filling Pulpits in the area region when needed. Preaching at Pine Grove Baptist Church for three years and three months as Pastor emeritus.
He admitted to having prayed for one more opportunity to preach at his home church of Grantsville FBC and did that on October 25th, 2025. Until February 2026, he had no inkling that he would be coming back to Grantsville. But God started dealing with his heart in February, and by April, through prayer and seeking God’s guidance, a renewed spirit brought me to accept the offer FBC to be their Pastor.
When I asked Bill what his plans were for Pastoring again in his home town, he said simply, but passionately, “to see souls saved, to grow the church and to help mend widespread brokenness in our community. I feel in my heart God brought me back to be a vessel for healing.”
Bill kept up with his friends and family in Calhoun County through social media keeping him aware of much of the heart ache throughout Calhoun County.
His opening sermon will be Sunday morning at First Baptist Church in Grantsville, preaching from 1st Corinthians 9:24-27 with the sermon title “As You Are Going.” Sunday School is at 10 a.m., Preaching at 11 a.m and the community is invited to welcome Pastor Bill and Connie Law home.
