August 19th Commission Meeting Provides Improved Salaries for Sheriff’s Dept.

The Calhoun County Commission held a special meeting on August 19th, 2025 at 4 p.m.

The following Delegations spoke during that meeting:

Gaylen Duskey-  Thanked the commission for working to make improvements.  Asked the commission to look into the townsfinancials and consider a metro government where the town would be absorbed by the county.

Crystal Mersh- Asked the commission to review town financials as well expressing concerns about an excavator and trailer purchased by the commission in August of 2024 on behalf of the town.

Garnet Husk- Thanked the commission for their work and listening to citizens concerns.

Gail Ford- Concerned about the stability of the town and why the former mayor and ex council member are allowed to be accessing town files especially after being voted out of office, that a statement was made when they were voted out and should not be in the town office accessing documents and thanked the commission for listening.

In Commission business President Arthur moved to increase Richard Dye’s hourly rate by $5.00 per hour effective August 16, 2025.

Commissioner Lupardus moved to accept Trevia Fulks retirement effective August 15, 2025, seconded by President Arthur. Motion passed 3-0. August 15, 2025 was Mrs. Fulks last day of work.

Commissioner Lupardus moved to promote Cindy Steele from part-time to full-time tax deputy, effective August 16, 2025. Vote approved 3-0 increase Tax Deputy, and to increase Cindy Steele’s hourly rate to $21.00 per hour effective August 16, 2025 Motion passed 3-0

The Commission moved to advertise in the local and surrounding papers for a full-time tax deputy and to increase home confinement officer and law enforcement deputies’ wages effective August 16, 2025

Commissioner McCumbers moved to adjourn, seconded by President Arthur.

Motion passed 3-0. Meeting adjourned at 4:34 pm.
