Calhoun County Wrestling Makes History as Kyleigh Morris Earns State Podium Finish

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — March 7, 2026 — Calhoun County High School athlete Kyleigh Morris etched her name into program history with an impressive 6th-place finish at the WVSSAC Girls State Wrestling Tournament in Huntington.

Morris capped off a remarkable season with a 36-13 record, showcasing consistency, toughness, and determination from start to finish. Her journey to the state podium was fueled by months of preparation and a strong showing at the regional level, where she placed 5th at the Girls South Regional Tournament in Parkersburg on February 22.

With her performance, Morris becomes the first returning girls state placer in Calhoun County history and the first wrestler from the school to place at the high school state level since 2022. Her accomplishment marks a significant milestone not only for herself but for the entire Calhoun wrestling program.

Beyond the medals and matches, Morris is playing a key role in something even bigger — the growth of girls wrestling in West Virginia. As one of the program’s trailblazers, she is helping inspire the next generation of athletes, particularly young female wrestlers in Calhoun County who now have a local role model to look up to.

Her success reflects the increasing opportunities and visibility for girls in the sport, and her leadership continues to make an impact both on and off the mat.

Kyleigh Morris’ season will be remembered not just for her record or her podium finish, but for helping pave the way for the future of girls wrestling in her community.
