On May 12 There will be the primary. Everyone needs to get out & vote because the WEST Virginia University wants to control the legislature so they are completely immune from feedback over their antics. The university which is an extension of state government, has monopoly control of healthcare in several areas and now is on a big expansion in Pennsylvania. It would seem that their professional sports teams are the #1 reason for existence now with book learning somewhere back in the dust. Several of their “athletes” make $1 million/year and all of this is to “educate the state”. Down in Wood County things have “gotten nasty” with a U. S. Senator who works for the deep state making endorsements as has the governor who now has likely guaranteed that he will not get reelected. Almost all the voters who have received the “nasty ” mailers are disgusted and some claim they are so mad they do not plan to vote. That, of course, is wrong — all should strive to learn the facts and then go vote and vote wisely. It has been reported that $10 million is being spent in this primary.
On May 9 there will be a Bingo game at the Creston Community building in the afternoon. In the morning folks should motor to Morristown [turn at the old Ravens plant in Elizabeth & go up Tucker’s Creek to the old school] for their pancake breakfast. Creston folks go there. They have buckwheat pancakes regular pancakes, eggs, biscuits & gravy, maple syrup, juice, coffee, etc.
A nice crowd was on hand Saturday for the yard sale at the Creston Community Building.
Jeff Miller, age 68 died April 15 in Spencer. He worked at the state road and until his wife, the former Connie Freshour, died they lived on W. Va. 5 “in the western Creston suburbs”.
Wanda Lee Miller, age 97, of Joker passed away. She was the daughter of Lexie Miller and the mother of Doris Shrader & Sharon Villers. Burial in the Bryner Chapel graveyard.
Irises are in bloom and some peonies are starting to bloom as well. While it is spring there continue to be killing frosts and the other day up in the mountains it was 17 degrees Fahrenheit. Strawberries that had been covered with blankets still froze & it is reported that 80% of the apple crop is lost. One younger woman noted, “Didn’t Junior Gore say that there was dangerous warming?” It is said he is now promoting an ice age. Historically one did not put out tomato plants until May 10. It would seem than really, nothing has changed from decades ago.
Folks from all over the state, and especially over on the other side of the mountains, talk about drought. Folks now need to locate additional sources of hay and pasture.
Several Creston folks have water that comes up the river from Elizabeth that the town purchases from the Claywood Park water system. It was reported that a main sprung a leak at a river crossing near Elizabeth and fixing matters requires equipment not available for the local watermen.
The Wirt County Farm Bureau meeting will be 10 A. M. On May 16 at the new rabbit barn at the Wirt County Fair Grounds.
The local correspondent has received many telephone calls and discussions everywhere he goes concerning the Creston News no longer being in the Calhoun Chronicle after a 50 year run. One woman who now lives in Parkersburg was told that the new owner, over in Lewisburg, does not like the column just like he didn’t like the writing of Gaylen Duskey the former editor who spent his adult life doing journalism for a living. The column can be found in hard copy at the Trader’s Guide and on line at the Ridgeview News. Gaylen Duskey knows who he offended but the local writer has now clue as to which “important person” complained to someone about “inconvenient truths”. At a recent political meeting in Vienna one woman made it a point to avoid communicating with the local fellow.
Back when the Marcellus play started in West Virginia and there was a surplus of natural gas there was a serious push to build ammonia & urea plants in West Virginia and the matter became somewhat more severe after the start of the Ukraine war. West Virginia has lots of gas and lots of locations for facilities that would not be in heavily populated areas. Both ammonia (NH3) and urea are needed for modern agriculture that keeps locals and the entire planet fed. Seems that the elites Down at the Mouth of the Elk saw no need for action as “fertilizer plants” apparently lack glamour. Now with the Iran war the matter has just gotten serious as a lot of the world supply goes through the Strait of Hormuz. Perhaps now some plants could be built in West Virginia although, no doubt, the green weenies would complain. However, there is said to be a new process for making ammonia that is “eco-friendly”.
Some, especially those with TDS, complain about what the national government is doing, especially overseas. With dictator Maduro now in the slammer the government of Venezuela is friendly to the US and lots of oil is coming on the market and to the refineries in Texas that were built of low grade oil. Iran’s Hezbollah had a home there too but such likely is no longer the case. The end of the 47 year war of Iran saying “Death to America” is pretty much over and now that oil is under the direction of the USA and now the United Arab Emirates withdrew from OPEC the outfit that tried to control world oil prices perhaps bringing the cartel to an end. All these things make America more powerful and eliminate dangers to the nation, directly & indirectly.
For one thing the Chinese communists can no longer acquire cheap oil to fund their building of the Peoples Liberation Army, Navy & Space Force.
Although the price of natural gas is only $2.78 there are lots more wells permitted in West Virginia and surrounding states. As a result of the Iran conflict natural gas, as LNG going to the orient is
$16.03/MMBTU. Perhaps some of the producers are getting that price but not sharing the bounty with taxes & royalties.
The price for local Pennsylvania grade crude slipped to $100.94/bbl. With condensate fetching $82.94/bbl. And Marcellus & Utica light bringing $89.94/bbl. West Texas oil is $101.94 and Brent (North Sea) crude is $108.17/bbl.
