David Allen Fought, 61, of Rockport, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio.
He was born on June 29, 1965, in Wood County, West Virginia, a son of the late Charles “Donnie” Fought and Helen Reed Fought.
David was a 1985 graduate of Wirt County High School. He dedicated more than 32 years of service as a diesel mechanic with R.J. Trucking, where he was known for his hard work, dependability, and mechanical skill.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Matthew Fought (Maddie) and Jennifer Custred (Phillip); his stepchildren, Nikki Foose (Chad) and Cheyenne Harris (Will); his siblings, Ronnie Fought, Debbie Bibbee (Mike), and Mike Fought; Brothers of the heart, Ed Jones and Gerald Harris; his grandchildren, Makailah, Brailynn, Ashlee, Peyton, Kynnlea, P.J., Makenzie, and Annabelle; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, Chuck Fought; his grandson, Cole Allen; his niece, Bobby Jo Crites; and his girlfriend, Cheryl West.
David enjoyed playing pool, working in his garage, mudding, sharing “trail sodas” with his friends, and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and the friendships he built throughout his life. Above all, David cherished his family, and the memories they shared together will be treasured for years to come.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 21, 2026, 5pm-7pm, at Matheny Whited Funeral Home, 97 Juliana Street, Elizabeth, West Virginia
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, with Rev. Jim Bruce officiating. Interment will follow at Wells-Seaton Cemetery in Elizabeth.
