Statement from Mayor John Villines Regarding Forensic Audit and Return of Money

Statement from Mayor John Villines, regarding this morning’s article about (linked here):

Statement:

The request was never denied.

I have personally called the State Auditor myself and I’ve had no response from them. That’s why he has never been put on the agenda because I haven’t talked to the State Auditor personally.

But it will be discussed the next meeting, that’s why I didn’t see any point on them voting on it because I’ve already made the contact.

But, nobody ever refused their request. Our agenda has already been made for the request has already been posted and I was not sure on the rules about once the agenda is posted if it could be changed. That is why I’ve added it into the Mayor’s discussion.

We are not trying to hid anything, we also can’t find anything that has been nefarious so far. We’ve only been in office for less than 30 days so it’s not like we could look into a lot of things in that time. Yes “Bobby” came in with the letter from his lawyer stating he was overpaid on payroll and handed a check to reimburse us for it. We are currently looking into it to make sure that nobody else got overpaid. It was a clerical error and our pay system has been corrected. It was nothing that he (Robert Petrovsky) did.

But if the town is not happy with the way I’m doing things I will be more than happy to let them make changes. It’s been 30 days, what can we have done in 30 days. But if people are unhappy with the way I’m doing it, then okay, but it’s been only 30 days. If the people of this town don’t like how I’m doing it, I will resign and step down because I’m tired of the lies, and backstabbing. I didn’t expect it.
